Re: 1986 5.3 TH400 Ebay GT45 SWAP! UPDATE 11.5 119mph
I think you have more left with the gt45, we have almost the same turbo kit (truck manifolds, crossover pipe with y merge at the flange, gt45 turbo). So i would think you should be putting out similar mph at the same boost so maybe you have a boost leak or something. I'm sure you can wring 800 hp out of one if you sprayed methanol to cool iat or ran an air to water. Btw I almost bought that on3 but the customer service horror stories turned me off from them. If you do go that route, i'm curous how much you pick up. Seems like a great wheel combo for our engines.
The GT45 will max out at about 600ish whp according to all my studies.
The reason for the turbo swap is the bearings on the GT45 took a crap.
I sucked some sort of object into the compressor wheel and caused some fins to get chipped which I am sure caused an out of balance issue.

Re: 1986 5.3 TH400 (Ebay GT45 replaced with ON3 78/76) SWAP! UPDATE 11.5 119mph
interested to see the results on the new on3. Should be the perfect street turbo for a 5.3L. Hopefully they are as reliable as the GT45. I like the smaller packaging of the on3/tc/precision stuff. Makes easier to have a clean setup.

Sounds nice having lope and that slight hint of turbo presence at idle.now take it all apart so i can buy the turbo setup and let someone less fortunate enjoy the craftsmanship lol.
Im waiting to see how your car rips up the 1/4

Well it's been awhile since I have updated this thread.
I have pulled the 5.3 and installed a lQ4. My ultimate goal is to push the car in the low 9 range.
I will be at the track this weekend making some low boost shakedown runs so I update then.

Nice. Your first vid had some nasty wine in the background which I assume is a fuel pump. Sounded like an A1000 I had for a min before I returned it lol.
What timing u got in it now? For wat ever it's worth I run 18* total on my 5.3 with 12psi on a centri supercharger with 93 pump gas a FMIC and about 700ml of water meth. The meth is just a backup overkill in case I get bad gas and I only drive it on the street so I was worried about IATs creeping up in traffic etc. E85 no real need for much IAT control so you can also crank up the timing.
