Re: The latest addition to my GTA family
SO After reading this, I have to say WOW, some people have all the luck .
Putting my GTA together was a real PITA (mostly the body shop pissed me off and I got bad deals on parts).
Never came remotely close to any of your deals.
I literally had the exact same issues with my car:
-Rats and the injector wires
-sat for ten years
-rust took out part of a floor pan, body shop decided to replace two and not put any rust prevention on the new metal
-one quarter was shot along with a fender and front bumper and door (the latter they did not align properly)
-electrical woes
-engine
-same color
only reason I didn't give up is its a notchback
excuse the rant, but I didn't think there was anyone that had the same problems I did, of course you fared better, I hope your luck continues
(and mine starts)

And I forgot to add:
Couple of things that you might consider:
-fog lights --> put LEDs in them, so when you have the parking lamps on, the car looks bad-a$$ IMO
-I installed a 4th gen body control module which cleaned up factory wiring and gave it a decent power door lock module, retained accessory power, controlled lighting, gm key fob, and the list goes on (its little, but extremely convenient and reliable, not to mention looks stock on the key chain)

Re: The latest addition to my GTA family
Thanks Brando!
I'm not too sure what is going to happen with the engine. All i really want to do is just get it running at this point. If and when that happens, then I will check the cylinder pressures. If everything checks out, then I will start making some plans. I would probably just throw a nice cam in it and I already have some roller tip rollers to put on it.
If the engine is trash, then I'm not too sure what will happen. I'd love to do a 5.3 LSx swap since I have quite a few left over parts from my blue GTA, but I'm not sure if I want to get that far involved with it. We'll see how it all plays out.

Re: The latest addition to my GTA family
I know I haven't posted anything on here in awhile, so I figured I'd give you guys a small update. I have still been busy working on the restoration of my blue GTA so I haven't really had any time to dedicate to this car. I decided this past weekend to rebuild the headlight motors on my blue car which got me thinking about the headlight motors for this car. I was pretty sure I had headlight assemblies set aside for this car, but I'll be damned if I could find them. So I decided I better throw some of my spare parts together to make headlight assemblies for this car. After going through all of my stuff, here's what I came up with...
Pretty much everything I need except for the motor for the LH side. I know I had one too, but I think I may have sold it to someone. Oh well. No big deal. I will just pick one up the next time I am at the junk yard.
I decided to go ahead and install them on the car too so that I don't lose them! lol
I also decided to install the tray between the headlights just to get it out of my garage.
I am probably going to start installing more parts on this car since I am trying to get my spare parts organized and it would actually be better to have the parts installed on the car. So hopefully I will have some more updates coming soon.

Re: The latest addition to my GTA family
Thanks Barlow.
Yep. I never found one in my blue GTA, so I was happy to find this one. I was going to try to remove it, but it looks like it's glued on there pretty well. I figured it would get destroyed if I tried. Oh well.

Hi Dave-hows it going?
Cool find with the build sheet.
Had to laugh when I read your last few posts about misplacing parts. It happens! Intentions are always good when wanting to have spares, but then when you need them-different story. I'm glad I'm not the only one that goes thru this. lol

It was nice to remove the carpet and see that build sheet. I was disappointed I didn't find one on my blue car.
Yeah, it happens to the best of us I guess. I have accumulated plenty of spare parts for my cars, unfortunately they are scattered throughout my garage and spare parts room. I am working on getting everything organized better so that happens less often. Putting the parts on the car should help... hopefully

Hello Dprest68,
I know this is an old thread, but that drivers side floor pan looks just like my GTA -88.
Did You find the waterleak causing the rust?
regards
Hasse

Re: The latest addition to my GTA family
I found no evidence of the t-tops leaking, so I am pretty sure it's the windshield leaking. Hopefully one day in the not too distant future I can get it over to the body shop and get the issue resolved. I will let you know what I find.
