Re: destroked 305

Id like to see that article.

Truth is, 500 hp is a stretch for a 383 on pump gas, much less a 305. You can make decent power from a 305 but you will need to keep your expectations realistic.

Re: destroked 305

Chevy already beat you to it with the gen II 4.3L L99 v8. It used a 305 bore with a 3 inch stroke. they used 5.94 inch rods so that they would not have to move piston pin location, therefore being...

Re: 1.6 roller rockers with vortec heads?

If you do go to a 1.6 rocker, dont forget to enlongate the pushrod slot in the head with a 1/2 inch drill bit to keep from bending the crap out of your pushrods.

Re: Vortec heads, Patriot Performance?

I just assumed you were talking about a used set of vortecs. $600 vs $630 for aftermarket heads with screw in studs and good valvesprings is a no brainer.

Re: Vortec heads, Patriot Performance?

It kinda depends on your camshaft selection. If you are under .470-.480 lift or so, then go with vortecs. The heads you are showing only flow 4cfm better @ .500 lift than the stock vortecs on the...

Re: new thumpr cam questions

the thumpr would be a nightmare to try to tune in an efi application. I run a the big mutha thumpr on my carbureted motor and im still fighting an off idle, and part throttle stumble.

I like the...

Re: Accessory holes on 462 double hump heads?

I have to respectfuly disagree. All it takes is a small spotface, just deep enough to clean up all the way around. after that it is just a well measured drill and tap. yes you do run the risk of...

Re: Accessory holes on 462 double hump heads?

A good machine shop can do it for you. I have also seen people try it their self which I would caution you against unless you have access to a horizontal mill and some good measuring equipment.

Re: roller cam question?

Im sure that there are other methods out there for in-car roller cam button setup, but those two are all I could think of. Good luck!

Re: 400 SBC...Stay away?

+1.....BTW, all the LS motors, and the 502BB have siamesed bores and

they make pretty reliable horsepower. Just food for thought.

Re: 383 vs. 400

brother...

With your setup, your stock block is all you will ever need. I would think

that the most possible horsepower you could ever make with those 195's

would be well under 600, and...

Re: Going from 9.5:1 to 12:1 compression what kind of hp gains?

I have always heard rule of thumb is 2% per point. so both of you would be right on the money.

Re: roller cam question?

The eaisest way I know to do it, is to knock out your back cam plug and
set up the dial indicator to read on the back side of the cam. You want
around .010. you will need a stiff timing cover...

Re: Stock L03 piston volume

Thanks, man.

I traded the 187's for a set of 601's, and im planning on milling them to around 50cc (i havent cc'd them yet) and porting them.

Re: Stock L03 piston volume

Ok, so now im wondering if this is an L03 or not.

My pistons are down bore .032 at tdc (checked both sides) and my head gasket measures .045.

This motor was in...

Re: 400 SBC...Stay away?

But in the case of as cast vortecs against as cast sportsman II's you are not gaining any flow to speak of by having a larger intake port. The only advantage that the sportsman II's have is on the...

Re: 400 SBC...Stay away?

As cast..No.
Ported.....Probably

The vortec and sportsman II flow numbers are very similar. With as cast heads, the advantage to the vortec would be the smaller, higher velocity intake port...

I know im new, and my opinion wont count, but thats my vote. With a mild 383 you are looking at low 12's very easy with the mustang. A little shot of juice and you could very well see mid to low...
