you will need to take the disc hat off, and unbolt the retainer from the housing end, 4 bolts. thats the easy part. A slide hammer and the assembly will pull out, and you will be left with an axle...

yep, egr would work, same type of valve and solenoid. you would need the external plumbing though from the exhaust manifold or header. it's no big deal, i ran it for my vortec tpi conversion...
