2x4s just get in the way. A vice grips on one of the shocks does the trick just fine :p Although they're on my list of things to do this spring as well.

I swapped for a T56 last summer. It's pretty straightforward but the bolts for the pedals are time consuming. That skulte article that mcgarnigle posted helped me a lot when I was preparing for it.
