I bought an '83 in 1983, but didn't pay attention. The '85 I bought in 1999 came with just the horizontal lines. Searching images on line for '84 I've seen both, but who knows what's original.

As I recall, the early 3-spoke wheels had a line on each spoke and later ones only a line on the horizontal spokes. Can you tell me when that changed?

MEK is a very aggressive solvent. Ordinary paint thinner (Varsol, mineral spirits) works fine on Ziebart. You don't want to dull or remove the paint.

Often when someone sells a car they've recently put an aftermarket stereo in, they'll take it out and throw the old one back in there without hooking it up.

There is a bracket back there with a hole to accept the "bullet" on the back of the stock stereo, that supports the rear. You may have to remove that bracket.

Sounds mechanical, but it's hard to tell from the video. An exhaust manifold leak sounds like mechanical ticking too. Check to see if and exhaust manifold nuts are loose or missing.
