My '88 GTA's instrument panel lights recently quit working. Also, the radio display goes black when the lights are turned on.

I looked a the fuses, but none of the labels looked like obvious...

That sure is frustrating. I want to avoid adding an aftermarket valve if possible. I hope the spring works for me, but I also don't like the idea of just putting a bandaid on it.

No, the tach was always stable.

I did have faulty coolant temp data long before the idle issue arose. That was a result of the ECM, too. I suspect a bad ECM can cause various symptoms.

I've been told to check the power junction block "near the battery" to see if it the cause for my low voltage (corrosion on a terminal/plug), but I cannot find anything that looks like what I expect...
