That sure is frustrating. I want to avoid adding an aftermarket valve if possible. I hope the spring works for me, but I also don't like the idea of just putting a bandaid on it.

No, the tach was always stable.
I did have faulty coolant temp data long before the idle issue arose. That was a result of the ECM, too. I suspect a bad ECM can cause various symptoms.

I run 89 in my '88 350, and I can still jab the throttle and it not ping unless it's during the heat of summer - and only then it's on upshifts at high throttle levels. I even run 89 with no issues...
