the boss on the water jacket has the angles off, I'm thinking I will just remove the boss that's in the way.. hopefully it will help with the vibration once installed.

Sounds like a fuel delivery problem..start with checking fuel pressure, if pressure is good then check fuel injectors.

Are the fuel injectors original? If they are they are probably bad, 1989 was a bad year for fuel injectors in these cars.

A quick check is to unplug them and measure the resistance of each one....

The o2 sensor shouldn't cause the issue you are having, go back through and check all the connections you unplugged to put the headers on. Sounds like the MAF is unplugged based on your problem...

That's exactly what I did on mine, I cut the sides down almost a half inch then built the centers up to match up to the deck lid.

As Dave said, any properly welded metal is as strong as the original piece. That being said I'd just section in the new pieces, should be a fairly easy repair.

Just fix all the cracks and broken spots the put a wonder bar on it. The wonder bar will tie the front to frame rails together and keep it from cracking again.

True Dave, but so far I've read that most require massaging to fit. I have a good original aero spoiler on my 87 GTA and I have test fit it on an 86, 87 and 88 deck lids and it fits perfectly.
