I found this harness hanging out under the steering column, can anybody tell me what it's for?

It has two purple wires, one green, one light blue, and one yellow... and I'm having a tough time...

So, I replaced the cable that runs from the key lock to the hatch mechanism. It didn't do a thing. Ugh.

So, does anyone know if the actual factory lock ever goes bad? Maybe the key is turning,...

Yeah I know what you mean. I've seen those type that open out too. But there are some kinds that don't have those umbrella looks but still have leds all the way around -- that's why I want to see...

This is exactly what I did! I was able to open the hatch from the interior in an emergency situation, and that's exactly what I did. Yessssssssssssssss! Thanks for the suggestion! :goodidea:

Firebat - Yeah, I've read a lot of tail light reviews using LEDs, and if you don't use the right kind, it will not be any brighter and you'll get that "dot" look. I guess that's why I started asking...

no no, there is a key for the trunk, but the hole will be covered by a blackout that can't be taken off unless the hatch is open -- so that pretty much cancels the use of the key out.

I do have the glove box on the driver side rear. But I'm curious, since the release turns the other way, wouldn't that be awkward setup? But, nevertheless, I've never thought about that before, and...

yeah when the key turns, the cable tightens... and turns the release mechanism. It's just not turning far enough (probably like 3/4 of the way) -- so I'm assuming the cable comehow got loose.

"Well, you're right it is cable operated, so perhaps the cable is worn or loose or the key is not turning all the way to release it. About the only way to figure it out would be to take off the rear...

I'm in the same hole. I have a 92 Firebird that has the wiring for the hatch release behind the bezel just above the radio. I purchased a bezel that includes the hatch release and it plugs right in....

Just picked up a 92 Firebird 3.1L a few weeks ago, loving it so far. Happy to be apart of ThirdGen now.

However, today I was going to drive it and noticed the key will not turn AT ALL....
