I don't know about your area but in this area (northern California) used 3.1L f body engines are easy to find with 60-90 day warranties in the $400-600 range for a long block with everything on it.

+1 on the shift kit, I forgot to say that when I had the transmission serviced that I had a transgo shift kit installed. Firmer shifts and better performance in mountain driving. I doubt that...
