Re: Carbon Fiber Intake Fabrication?

I know it's not fiberglass but the mat is almost identical to fiberglass. If you formed a mold you could wet it with resin and lay down the fiber with a paint brush, then thicken it up. Let it cure...

Re: Carbon Fiber Intake Fabrication?

Matt,

Do you think an LSX style is possible with an upper and lower with internal tubes? I could use PVC and carve out the rest as a mold.

Re: Carbon Fiber Intake Fabrication?

The dissolving stuff can be shaped, fine tuned like silly putty if you will. Sand wouldn't be a good plug for carbon fiber aka high strength fiberglass. The mold would have to be smooth and coated...

Re: New England Roll Call

Re: Fuddruckers Firebird Show in Methuen

I went to one a couple of weeks ago, It was a pretty good showing. Another nice one in that area is the one at the Salem Elks lodge on the old 111 just off of 28.

Carbon Fiber Intake Fabrication?

Has anyone here ever done such a thing? They do exist mainly for tuner cars though:huh: I've read some pretty interesting things about molds that are water soluble(will dissolve in water) Yeah, I'm...

Re: Blending convertible bodyline on top of 1/4 panels

TPI383 is that your car with the tilt nose? Nice work if so, I'd be interested in the particulars on that as well. I'll stay on topic, have you had any problems with cracking? I would think that...

Re: Blending convertible bodyline on top of 1/4 panels

Mine is riding on a truck from Long Beach, Cal tomorrow and should arrive on the 29th. This is my first one, I'm like a kid in a candy store. The paint is peeled off on the hood and snout, so that is...

Re: Blending convertible bodyline on top of 1/4 panels

Is it made out of ABS Plastic? If that is the case a wire wheel acts just like sandpaper on the stuff without really touching metal.

Re: Blending convertible bodyline on top of 1/4 panels

Dale,
I figured I would leave them on and sand the side facing out on the rear 1/4 down to nearly paper thin. I am making the last 3/4" paper thin, leaving a lip for a fiberglass strip. I will lay...

Re: Blending convertible bodyline on top of 1/4 panels

Is anyone else interested in this? I feel that the car would look more refined. Like it was designed to be a convertible. I don't want to change any body lines,, just get rid of that "quick fix" seam...

Re: Blending convertible bodyline on top of 1/4 panels

Nice, thanks for the reply. That would be the "proper" way to do it. I think if I took the sides of the cap way down I could glass it in and blend it as if it didn't exist.
