Hackers, scammers, Highjackers

We have been getting a rash of scammers on TGO lately. They have been new members signed up and posting movie reviews. I think we should not allow any new post without having a complete profile set up first, or maybe a check from the administration before allowed to post on here? Just my rant.

In short, nearly every single website is subjected to spam and can see some sort of spam. We already use some features to help reduce spam but no system is perfect and without being so locked down that legitimate members can't post, the best suggestion is to use the Report Post feature to report the post for Moderation to take appropriate action.

Hey JT, over on the Megasquirt forums they have eliminated spam by requiring approval of the first 2 posts of a new member joining the forum before those posts will show.

Just thought Id throw that idea out there.

I don't think that we want to do that at this time on a global level. Legitimate members who sign up to find and ask questions will be most put off by such a restriction just to save temporary spam.

By the way, we have seen a sizeable amount of spam where somewhat ontopic content is posted and then the content is edited with spam links a few days later. This is a trick, apparently, to get some exposure but not overly to the point it's immediately flagged and deleted as spam. In those cases, such a proposal of requiring approval would not work.
