New top banner
I like it, it looks sexy, but.....the gauges are 4th gen gauges. Little out of place? But I see why they were used, cause 3rd gen gauges are just downright ugly.

We are aware of that issue. Unfortunately, the person who made the graphics didn't know the difference. JT told me and I passed the info on to our web guy. If anyone knows of where I can get a nice pic of the 3rd Gen gauges then please let me know and I'll make him redo the image.

IMO, the whole banner needs to be re-worked. (Camaro emblem shouldn't have black in the third bar, that should be blue, TGO's boards and main page have pretty much always used the emblem's 3 colors also) I'd like to see something that has a mixture of a bunch of nice top model Thirds and maybe uses gauges and things like that as a clear background or for a fade effect behind the cars.
It'd be nice if we were all working on this stuff together and knew what was going on.

As I said though, the complete skin has not been uploaded yet, so we're not going to change anything else until we see how everythingis going to look.
On a site-related note, does anyone know anything about adding a Google site-search box? I'd like to use one so I can enable searching without killing the box, but don't really know anything about them.

Is this what you're talking about?

I have some suggestions, but I will wait for the final skin, as i'm sure it will change the appearance even more (I just hope the forum isn't all black) . As far as a gauge picture, it appears it's going to be hard to find a good one. I've searched around the internet with no luck. Heres some of mine if it will be any help.
I'd go snap better ones right now if my car wasn't covered and 2 inches away from a wall.

I also noticed
i also noticed the 4th gen cluster. It kind of made me wonder, it seems that people do use them often as a replacement for the 3rd gen's (often seen as[an])unatractive cluster. Or they just build their own.
How about just a tach with the RPM pegged at about 5500 with the thirdgen.org logo in it? Maybe even a shift light with the logo kind of burned in (faintly of course).

I do like the bird/camaro combination logo up top...Just need to correct that color. Good job, site is looking good and working good too!
I havent been coming here very long, but in the short time I have, I've grown pretty addicted. I already bought a car from the classifieds too! I really need to stay out of there.

The bird logo in the banner and on the buttons looks like a 2nd gen bird to me.
Love the new color scheme, though. Are we ever going to have a choice of skins?

Oh great. Much better. Forget putting a Firebird there, lets commercialize and put ads there
I knew that would wind up happening.

And I don't like the automerge option either.

I, too, am not a big fan of the ads in the top banner. Reminds me of one of those free sites like a tripod or lycos-type page.
What is this automerge you speak of?

This was mentioned by a few. And all this complaining made them put it up on the home page too! Dirk Should have sold it two years ago to the thirdgen group that wanted it.

Yeah the new banner sucks. It has a pic of a thirdgen cramped in the corner with writing over it, and then ads take up the rest of the room. wtf kind of banner is that supposed to be? Can't they atleast put the ads somewhere else on the page?

I would have to agree, a third gen bird/TA on the right side of the banner would balance it out nicely. And did anyone notice that the bird on the camaro emblem was that for a 2nd gen not a thirdgen? . It is good for a change, but I think it should be kept to the thirdgen theme, maybe I am old fashioned though...Just a thought...

Who bought this site, PRIMEDIA? HOLLEY?
A Internic "Whois" search shows the site still registered to Dirk:

Take a look at http://www.ThirdGen.COM , and see what the future COULD hold. yeah, it's a real site. Disgusting.

I have to add my 2 cents....
I came into this forum because of the ads. I needed to know what the deal was! I really don't lke it. They are at the top in the black banner, at the very bottom of the banner and at the bottom of the page. Unless Google is paying for sponsor space, I think it needs to go. Coming into TGO was a way to be on the Internet without being over run by it with junk. Adding all that junk in here over commercializes TGO and makes it look trashy! Again, just my 2 cents.

Here is my idea on the banner. I think there should be an IROC (in red) in the left and a GTA (white) sence black wont show up , in the right with the TGO banner right in the middle with the camaro emblem on the left and a firebird emblem on the right. Us the space up there to make the page more presentable. AND give both side of this group equal respect. Just an idea. Also the "EDIT", "QUOTE" and "POST REPLY" buttones still have the 2nd gen birds in them. just some FYI

Honestly, the header... for most forums it's just an image. No site has anything important up there and it's not taking up extra space. As for the links on the bottom that's not taking much space either and it doesn't show up on every page.
I would love to add an image to the header on the right. Definately a firebird, but due to limitations of pleasing everyone at 800x600 there doesn't allow room.
Just realize that these servers take capital to run. Everyone here is a member of the community and it still exisist. With all these ads it's possible we can bring in new members. These ads work in both directions.

Pleasing everyone is not the issue, the members of this "community" should have a say in the look of the website that was for the thirdgen enthusiast when it began. Maybe if the google ads were not on the header you would have more room to add a pic of a thirdgen bird? The header does not have "nothing of importance", it is the first thing people see when they come to the forum. As a thirdgen enthusiast, we should pay tribute to the bird and teh camaro, not just the camaro. It is funny, cause the ads were not there before and yet new members were added daily, so I don't get the logic here. Just my 2 cents....

Im 100% with Dan (DC87GTA) on this one. This started out as an enthusiast bases forum. Now it seems that the members have less and less of a voice compaired to the ad companys. This page was ran with ONLY 3rd gen based ads befor. I dont understand why the ads have to be in the headers taking up room where a 3rd gen bird could be places when the exact same ad can be accessed elsewhere on the same page.

This is the new design:
Outside of the head of the bird being smaller, and the outline outside on the top being fatter, it looks more like a 3rd gen emblem than a 2nd gen emblem. I'm not sure if the emblem will be reworked since it has been mistaken as a 2nd generation emblem by some. However, while the color combo may be similar, the design is much closer to a 3rd generation than a 2nd generation.
There are a few icons that do use the 2nd generation emblem, which was a mistake. However, in my opinion, the person doing the graphics did a good job putting things together. It's much better than a stock vB skin, and these changes weren't just color code changes. There are some things that may need tweaked. I would like to see a Trans AM/GTA in the banner, as I stated before. Having a Camaro only gives an immediate impression that this site is dedicated to the Camaros only. However, overall, I think Dave did a good job.

Actually I think everyone was refuring to the bird that was up originally on the new banner and it got changed. It WAS a 2nd gen t/a bird. But people are reading the old post and assuming that they are talking about the current bird.

I got ya. Yeah I would have to agree, the colors do give it the 2nd gen sail panel emblem look. But me being a 2nd gen firebird fanatic aswell as a 3rd gen entusiast I have no trouble telling the differance.

well honestly we can all get what we want, there will always things you would rather have. But i can say that the board is A LOT better then it used to be, so i'm not really going to complain. I"m sure they worked hard on what they got so far, and i know if i spent hours i woudlnt want to hear about how it should be different.

Yes, but I agree with people saying you have to remove it from the top banners. These are images representing the site, with a big fat ad on it. Not cool.
At this point and time, I would be worrying about losing members, not bringing in new ones.
I mean no disrespect, but both banners (main page, and forum) look horrible. Especially the main page, it looks sloppy, the lines don't match up or anything. It seems the image and text that represents the site are crammed to make room for the ads. I think it would be much better to keep the ads like they are, but remove them from both banners.
I understand it takes capital to run servers. But your company did not buy TGO for fun. I'm sure they seen the traffic it receives, and thought they could make a profit on it. These ads are not just for strictly paying for the server. It is also an attempt to make a profit, and unfortunately, it's at the expense of the websites look and great history. TGO should have been sold to an enthusiast.

No site has anything important up there? IMO, isn't that the first thing a new person sees, the top banner? In my mind, that should be at least half attractive and not 85% google bull.
Hell, keep the google ads at the bottom, I don't care about those, don't think anyone really does. Just get the google ads out of the banners and get something that shows a bit of decency towards this community.
I agree, no offense to the purchasing party.

I would have to agree now on the bird emblem. The color and the more rounded shape gives it the outline of the 2nd gen bird emblem. Where as the thirdgen one is straighter on the sides. My mistake. And others like stekman see the ads in the same way all of us have posted about.

I've recently registered Google ads on my personal site, and originally the ads were very disconnected from my content; however, after two weeks the ads are right on - when my page discusses 91 camaros, the ads only show 82-92 camaros. BTW, my ads are off to the side and need to b scrolled to for someone to view them. I do not have them on my header, bluntly stuck in people's faces. Perhaps if the new owners put the TA/bird up there and moved the google ads someplace else, there would be less complaints from the thirdgen.org loyalists.
And JT, I've been watching your responses to forum problems since the changeover began. Your work is greatly appreciated.
