Nitrous Stand Alone Fuel System Pump Question

I am trying to understand why I would need a big fuel pump for a stand alone nitrous fuel system.

My car ran a best of 13.0 @ 105 last year on motor (Vortec 350, carb), and I plan on spraying 100-125 horsepower this year on it as well through a plate system.

I just pulled the trigger on this:

And want to pick out a pump to run to my Nitrous Express Proton solenoid. Everyone is telling me to run a Holley Blue. I agree a Holley Blue will be more than adaquate, but I am starting to think it is really overkill.

A holley blue can push 15 feet of fuel through -8AN fuel line to feed a 400+ horsepower car down the 1/4 mile. I need a pump that will push fuel 1.5 feet, through -6 AN fuel line. Just not sure why I would need a huge pump for this.

Thoughts? Anyone running a smaller pump for their dedicated systems?

Re: Nitrous Stand Alone Fuel System Pump Question

Blue flows 110 gph. Holley red is common too at 97 gph. Go on summit racing and browse electric inline pumps. Theres a few in the 43 goh range that should work. Holley has one, msd makes one, trickflow, etc

Some others between 40 and 70 as well. Any of them will work, ideally you want it suitable for low pressure

Granted thats wayyy overkill for a 100 shot lol

Re: Nitrous Stand Alone Fuel System Pump Question

i made a nifty little standalone cell using a 190 intank pump with a regulator on the side. worked good for the smaller shots i was running. no idea how much you could get out of that setup though. i just didnt want a bunch of plumbing and wanted a simple drop in type unit that could be transferred to a different car easily.

Thanks, this is what I needed to read . So the only reason I am going this way, is I am running the stock in tank TPI pump with a Holley high pressure regulator to run it on a carb on my 89 Iroc. Works great, but I don't trust the setup to run a 100/125 shot on top of it if that makes sense.

Then I am sort of at a crossroads, like if I upgraded my fuel pump would I stick with an EFI pump or a low pressure pump, upgrade lines, sump, etc. Which to me is all overkill at this point for what I am doing.

What do you think of this:

Re: Nitrous Stand Alone Fuel System Pump Question

A single 255 walbro will do 500-600 whp at 38-43 psi pressure. All i ran on my nitrous car was one pump. Tapped the hsr rail and ran to solenoid. 400 whp all motor and 150 shot jetting. 128 mph traps so i'd guess near 500 whp. All same 93 oct gas

Thats efi pressure. At 5-7 psi carb pressure. Walbro likely could flow abit more power. Need to check flow maps or do a test.

I'd just upgrade to a racetronix 255lph kit and regulate it to whereever you need it. If efi swap someday just change regulator.

Unless you plan on even more power than 550 whp, then maybe a single 340 lph or fit a 400. Or dual 255's
