Aerodynamic Intake Uses CO2

CO2 and Unique Aerodynamic Design Reduce Air Intake Temperature for Improved Horsepower

Design Engineering, Inc. (DEI) has now introduced a CryO2™ 4˝ Air Intake that redefines cool. This new patented air intake features an aerodynamically designed bulb with an internal cryogenic chamber mounted in a short modular air tube. This uniquely designed air intake kit harnesses the extreme cooling properties of liquid CO2 to reduce air intake temperature up to 50°F. By greatly lowering the intake charge temperature, any street or race vehicle will maximize available horsepower for improved performance.

Sold with complete hardware – silicone coupler, hose clamps, vent cap and braided line, this CryO2 Air Intake can be combined with multiple units for improved results. DEI’s CryO2 Air Intake works with any naturally aspirated, turbocharged, or supercharged application and can easily be added to any existing nitrous oxide or CryO2 system. A full line of air intakes are available from DEI in various sizes from 2.5˝ to 4.5˝ O.D. The 4.5˝ O.D. is ideal for high power N/A and diesel applications.

I think the whole point of this is density ='s power. So it be a turbo with a inter-cooler or nitrous with a cooler system on the bottles, their system makes the air even more dense.Might even negate elevation issues to sea level. So it say for a example your straying nitrous you would spray this too.

Hummm-interesting concept.

density = more 02, I'm willing to bet pound for pound (system weight), a nitrous system will add more 02 to the intake charge than whatever cooling can be done with a CO2 system. Cool idea, but its a step backwards IMO.

Holy crow, your still up!!!. I think it's the cooling effect of co2 that is the object of it's use to make the air denser.

Trust me,I have seen all kinds of odd-ball combinations from propane to hydro that makes wacky claims. This one does seem to have some merit.

Don't think they are talking about one or the other.Do think they are talking about using both at the sametime.

no i think they are suggesting running the CO2 to function as a charge cooler, on top of a na or boosted combo

Re: Saw this thought,of you power adders

They do talk about adding to a existing nitrous system too.

One of the things I question is if on a TPI a really cold air charge could freeze the injectors like freezing up a carb.I wouldn't think so,but I am a small fish in a really huge pond.LOL.

Re: Saw this thought,of you power adders

No, I dont like gimmicks. If you want more power or colder air use a bigger turbocharger or a better intercooler or both.

It is not just about "more oxygen". Yes, oxygen is the component that fuel gets with to have a party, however, the work done by the expanding gas inside the cylinder is a combination of temperature and volume changes that occur over thousands of cycles. In other words, each expansion event does not start at room temperature and shoot to 1400*F. When the mixture enters to be burnt the combustion chamber is already hot, the idea here is to use some of that heat, make more heat, expand more gas volume and do more work. If the temperature keeps rising and rising you will melt something, and if the temperature drops too low you will lose potential and waste energy. Notice none of this has anything to do with oxygen besides the fact that more oxygen will give a leaner reaction and potentially more heat given the same mass of fuel, which may force a larger volume, but also a quicker reaction, so there is more science to this process than can be described in one paragraph, or just by saying " more oxygen is better ". Think of reasons why we cannot run an engine on pure O2. Think of why nitrous helps but cannot be used by itself without some of our atmosphere. Expanding gasses (some oxygen, but not ALL oxygen) do work on the surface of the piston... given the temperature is low enough that it does not melt the engine, and given the reaction is slow enough that it doesnt punch a hole in the piston or headgasket trying to get out.

Re: Saw this thought,of you power adders

The co2 systems work but it be easier to just do meth injection for charge cooling. It works really well and adds detonation resistance with higher oct alcohol fuel. Co2 would be colder but it doesnt give fuel additives. Filling it up all the time would be costly when meth isnt much. Can use -20 deg wiper washer fluid. Cheap but still effective.
