HSW Nitrous Install Completed

Finally got all my **** together. Bottles empty right now.

HSW makes good stuff at great prices. Plenty of people running 300+worth of n2o on their products. This is just a universal wet kit that i changed to my needs.

Starting in the back...I made a custom seat delete box to mount the bottles too out of 5/8 mdf and covered it with matching dove gray carpet. I'm using a filter, and a blow down tube. For those of you wondering what that skinnier bottle is for, it's filled with nitrogen to keep the nitrous pressure constant. Don't have to run a heater that way. You can also see the Mallory 685 ignition i'm running. Has a 2 step, single stage retard, start retard, boost reference if needed, and other ****. It pulls timing when the noids are activated.

Ran the ignition box wires through the center counsel, and the nitrous line through the door jam than into a 3/4" hole in the firewall. The blow down exits right by the factory hole plug. You can see how I'm getting fuel, and how i mounted everything.

Couldn't find a decent spot in the factory intake to mount the nozzle, so i used some silicone and pipe to get it done.

Mounted the microEdge in a pretty visible spot. It controls everything and all the settings can be customized. Flick the arm switch, purge, and drive! it does all the thinking for you. The switches are in the ash tray btw....pretty clean.

Overall it wasn't hard at all to install, just make sure to record all your wiring and keep everything straight.

Re: HSW Nitrous Install Completed

just noticed, it looks like you used teflon tape....

i advise to take the system back apart, and get rid of the tape...get some teflon TFE paste instead...

the tape WILL wreack havoc on your solenoids, and has the capability to lock a solenoid OPEN. use paste !

personally i've never had any luck with teflon paste, don't know if it was just old or what, but the guys at Nitrous Outlet gave me a little tip to use red loctite instead, works great for me

Re: HSW Nitrous Install Completed

Nice setup 89fbird!

lol i knew someone would point out the tape. I started it 3 threads in from the end, so it should be just fine. The only reason i used the tape was because i couldn't get the angled an-npt fittings where i needed them with red locktite, with the tape i could get them right where i needed them. I actually stripped the 45* fuel fitting trying to get it pointed up and left good thing i had a few extras. IDK i might go back and use the gel on all the straight fittings.

Re: HSW Nitrous Install Completed

When I put together my Aeromotive VAFPR my racing buddy said I should not have used teflon paste. So I disassembled and used tef tape. Now I installled my NOS name brand system and they state use paste. So on assembly I pulled the tape and used all paste. I can see how a sliver of tape can wreak havoc on the fuel side and you run lean as a result. So I am back to paste. Also at big box store I found something that resembled tef paste but was non drying sealant and gray in color. It is not teflon paste. I notice when tef paste dries it seems to give off dry particles. comments?

yes..its TFE paste, should dry as white.

the grey stuff is for plumbing applications in household stuff i think..

i could care less if the fuel solenoid gets stuck open...its always the nitrous solenoid i worry about....

having a N20 noid continuing to spray is BADDDDDD news.

Probably was Rectorseal Sealant. They have a paste for just about everything. I like the No. 7 the best. Their website lists what materials each paste is compatible with.
Paste or not, an installer needs to be careful about contamination.

http://www.rectorseal.com/chrt.htm

EDIT: The 3M brand white stuff I have has TFE in it and works well.

Re: HSW Nitrous Install Completed

I was refering to fuel solenoid stuck closed. NOS brand solenoids are normally closed. the solenoid pulls open. So I presume catastrophe can result from fuel stuck closed or N20 noid stuck open.

just use TFE paste or red loctite...and you will be fine..

just make sure to get all the teflon tape out of the threads of the noids, and off the fittings.
