turbo questions
so i have been considering putting this engine in my camaro.
http://www.crateenginedepot.com/RamJ...120-P22C2.aspx
its an 85 IROC
i am also thinking that i would like to do a turbo with this swap.
i have been thinking that a single turbo is for me, and would like advice.
a remote mount would be easiest, but i am open to criticism on this.
what is the opinion here.
how much power would i be looking at with a remote mount setup
is this doable?
how much would this honestly cost, without the engine.
lets assume i already have it.

remote mount = garbage
a typical Good turbo build starts at about $25k thats with an engine.
if u have the engine your looking to spend $8k to $11k on a turbo setup depending on what material u are going with.

Re: turbo questions
remote mount can work but it can be very hard to deal with also. I put an STS kit on my friends S-runner and that wasn't too bad but step by step instructions help a lot. If you want to do a remote mount setup and don't have any parts yet, I would think about just buying an STS universal kit for your desired power levels. Or figure out what trim turbos, size charge pipe, intercooler...they use. The fun part will be fabbing the mount out of the muffler hangers to securely hold the turbo. Then finding a good way to run charge pipe to the throttle body and still have decent ground clearance.

Re: turbo questions
the first thing u need to do is decide how much power u want
from there u can start to pick out what u need and then get an idea of cost and what u will need to reach ur goals

Re: turbo questions
wow.
ok, well 25k is out of the question.
if i had that much, i would put it down on a new challanger...
just sayin.
anyway, im looking to get about 400 rwhp if possible.
this would be my first forced induction experience so id like to keep it simple.
still deciding on this.
i was actually looking at an sts universal kit.
to me, it looks like i would have plenty of room to mount the turbo wherever i wanted.
i dont know why they say you have to mount the turbo at the rear of the car.
to me it would make more sense to put it where your cat is, or right after the cat...
the cat heats up the exhaust if i remember correct, and this would help spool the turbo...
anyway, enough of me, lets get the conversation flowing.

Re: turbo questions
well the motor ur starting with is a 350 hp motor so i would aim a lil higher
2 reasons why the turbo cant go were the cat is
#1 it will no longer be emissions legal(if it was sold by sts)
#2 ground clearance
all in all since ur not trying to build some super high hp beast
a t61 or t4/60-1 would be a good turbo each are capable of 550-600 hp
on a rear mount the ex side of the turbo is smaller then if it was front mounted to make up for the lag and lower egt's going threw the turbine
i would get one of those and a sureflo or mocal return pump and run the thing on 5-7 psi and enjoy it

Re: turbo questions
ok. well 400 rwhp is about 500 crank hp.
the engine i would like to start with is 350 crank hp.
anyway, that makes sense about the ground clearance.
however im not at all concerned about being legal. its not a problem around here.
for 5-7 psi (although i think i would need more) would i need lower compression?
im fine using premium gas, but i dont want to have to mix race gas or use meth or anything...
i do like the feeling of a high compression engine though, so if i can keep it, that would be great.
also, would it be easier to simply go to the evil carburetor instead of trying to make the GM Ramjet FI work?
i hate carbs with a passion, but if thats the smart way, then i guess its "work around-able"
keep it comin
