The offset won't be an issue when I cut the hood. I do plan to apply either aluminum (or sheetmetal) with a hole in it to dress it up a bit.
BTW - I looked at your engine pics DAVECS1 - very nice! Is that an aftermarket TB system you're using?

This is the air cleaner I am running, for now. I plan on doing something custom later.
Yes that is an aftermarket TB setup from holley. It is there 900 CFM set up. It works outstanding on top of the blower. The misting from the injectors cooles the intake charge phenomenaly and I never have detonation problems. It is extremely robust and I never really have had any tuning issues. It took me about 2-3 days with a laptop to dial it in. The car has tons of miles on it now. It was orignially my father's car, we built together. As he got older he wanted a more refine touring car so he bought a new vette and gave me this one. I have driven it from IL to TN a number of times. It gets about 18mpg, and suprises porsches sport bikes, and new vettes. :-) If you have the coin for EFI, I would not hesitate, it has made this an incredibly fun car, I have even pushed it into daily driver status while getting work done to my truck.

I too don't detect any detonation problems at all, or I'm unable to hear them. I know the car moves much faster than it ever has by a long shot. I haven't gotten on it real hard since the engine really isn't broken in yet, but I've succeeded in breaking the tires loose in second and third gear without giving it full throttle! So traction is my next issue....
I'm already kinda committed into running a carb with the parts I already have, but I really like the setup you have on your 383.
I already ordered a 2" drop lower air cleaner base, and I plan to remove the hood and cut the hole so it lines up. I'll most likely use sheetmetal or aluminum to cover the hack job so it looks decent and then make some kind of seal between the engine compartment and cowl so it only sucks the cooler air from the cowl.
I just took it out of the garage the other day since the roads were dry and not snowy for a change, and the blower whine is LOUD without an air cleaner...or at least I hope an air cleaner will muffle it a little. It did stall a couple of times when I let off the gas at stop signs, not sure why that's happening since it seems to idle fine, but it was hard to start for some reason. I plan to change carbs soon anyway and get my 750 Holley back on it. I may get a fresh set of spark plugs too. I think I fouled the set I have one too many times while tuning the engine and maybe that's why it's stalling...

Re: Got the Magna Charger now.....
I am not sure if your blower has the bypass valve or not. I had stalling problems at first also. When coming to a stop or letting of the gas abruptly. Basically I was not supplying enough air to maintain idle, during the transition. I ended up having to tune the IAC (Idle air Control motor) to go wide open and my throttle blades need to be cracked a little. It idles about 900 rpm, this way and does not die.
With no EFI controller on there, I am not sure how you would go about monitoring knock. With my ECM I can watch the knock counts to make sure everything is good. May wanna look into some of the Innovate stuff.
The blower you have on your car is similar to the one I have on my truck. They are LOUD no matter what. On my truck I can here it over the Magnaflow catback at full tilt. Enjoy it! It is what you spent your hard earned money on.
On the plugs I run NGKs and I usually run TR6's. They are a heat range colder than normal. Sometimes it is hard to get the parts guy to look them up because they are not listed for any car I know. These will help. I usually gap them at .032. Anything wider and I have run into blowout issues. Talk about a wierd sound, and spooky feeling.
Good luck on the car sounds like it is coming along nicely.

Also, It actually wouldn't start for a week, I couldn't figure it out since it ran fine till I parked it...I noticed that I lost the locknut on my FPR, guess I didn't tighten it, and it fell off so I wasn't geting enough fuel pressure. Starts fine now...

Confuzed1 you puss cut the hood!
At least you are driving/starting your car. My intake won't stop leaking. It's been 4 months since I have started it. I hate my car.

Re: Got the Magna Charger now.....
Sad to hear you're still fighting with that intake....
I have a couple of known good ones lying around in great shape if you're interested...an Action Plus, and a "Crosswind"....no need to hate the car, you'll get it going.
Besides, you're in the same boat I am...you've spent too much already, so it's "Cheaper to keep her" - and your car looks 10 times better than mine too!!

Hate to bring back a dead post but I just read this entire thread and I am curious to see how things are going now!
How doesn't a big cap HEI distributor work? They use one right here! http://www.hotrod.com/cars/featured/...d-350ci-chevy/
The blower in this link looks different than yours though, including the thermostat placement is different

I now have a Dart Little M block in the car with steel billet mains, and added AFR heads. Runs great! It's a lot of fun to drive and tons of torque. A couple pics:
