VORTECH SUPERCHARGER
Any of you guys using the Vorteck Supercharger on your 305 or 350 stock engines, If so, how do you like it, does it give the hp gains and torque gains that they say it does. Are they worth the money?

Well, to be totally honest, most of the people on this board (at least from the old one) are running prochargers. I like vortech, dont get me wrong but i have never personally seen a vortech take a stock 350 into the 12's. I just haven't. I have heard and seen a lot of 350's here who went with procharger and were ALL IN THE 12'S. I put a kit on my 89 IROC-Z and with my posi breaking at midtrack and 2.77 gears, and a O2 at like .950 i ran a 13.1@109. By the end of the day, i managed a 13.4@106 without the posi at all and 2.77 gears. Have had fuel problems since but the car is good for an easy low 12 second pass at around 113. This is what i say though. DO A LOT OF RESEARCH!!! That is what i did. Buy the one you are comfortable with, dont let anyone convince you of one or the other. The main reason i went with procharger over vortech was because i could run 12lbs of boost at full timing and it came with an intercooler. Vortech only let you run 6lbs of boost and had to retard timing. Those were really what it came down to for me. I hope this has helped.
BTW, i am selling my procharger kit and giving my 24lb injectors with it for no extra charge. Upgrades and polished everything. Email me if interested.

I am THRILLED with my Vortech. I did not put it on a stock car but the power gains were nice when I had the car running halfway decent.
I think that are worth the money

I put a Vortech on my almost stock motor (305) and when it hits ,it is an unmatched feeling . I dont know if any mod to run on the street is really needed , but it is sure fun . The cost is high but you r paying for ease of installation to get 100hp. Sure you could probally could get 100hp from heads , cam , for less but the installation is much more involved . Its your choice but I love mine , and I use a water injection instead of timming retard. Let me know if you have any questions that I might be able to answer.

I didn't put my Vortech on a stock engine either but I LOVE it. It has a real seat in the pants kick. I belive if your serious about going fast and plan on keeping your car then there is no better way to go than with a blower. Well worth the $$$$$$$$.

Going back to this topic.... I need some help deciding something. There's this local rich kid (gets 2k a week allowance) that buys HP parts all the time and then decides he doesn't like them and sells them off. He recently bought a Vortech for his SBC SUV and he ran it for about a 1 or 2 months and decided he didn't want it anymore. So its sitting on the shop floor with his 10k borla remote control backpressure system, and he wants 1k for the whole vortech system with dirs and all. Whats everyone think is it worth it? It'll be put on a stock 350 TPI, with 3.23 positraction gears.

I've always liked ATI's more, but 1k for a 3.5k system ain't to bad I guess... plus it wouldn't even go on for awhile probably until I collect some other parts. Worth considering I guess.

I basically have a zz4 motor at 400hp and am considering the vortech unit. What carb and fuel pump are you running? How was the install and how long have you been running you 305 with it. Any info and suggestions would be great!

I believe he has a TTA now running e85. Not sure if he even still has the supercharged car.
Should have started a new thread regarding blow through carb + vortech.

Re: VORTECH SUPERCHARGER
Even though they discontinued the TPI vortech kits, there are threads out there for the carbed kit install details.
I just installed the vortech carb'd brackets on my miniram car and only have the intercooler left to install before I'm done.

Re: VORTECH SUPERCHARGER
It's actually for the serpentine brackets. if you look at the vortech sbc carb manual there is a pic of the serpentine set-up on front.
http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/images/95.pdf
Only problem is, with my miniram intake, the thermostat outlet was modified to clear the throttle body, so their placement of the alternator on that bracket was right in line with my radiator hose and the hood closing.
You have to drill the mounting bracket holes 1 inch lower to get the hood closed, then I had to grind on the top of the bracket to get the alternator to sit low enough to get the current alternator belt on the car.

The TPI kit moved the alternator down low. Whole bracket assembly and everything is all different.
Curious which one puts the head unit closer to the shock tower.

Keep us updated 89gta383 this is the same thing I have been looking to do with my income tax return. I have been doing a lot of research the last few weeks the vortech carb kits are cheap like half the price of the tpi procharger kits and Im running the mini ram also.

For someone with an aftermarket ECM that's probably a good thing.

I am running the ls1 PCM so I have boost fueling and timing under control. After I get the inter cooler on and dyno it I will make my own thread.
