I have a dumb question....
What is a "Turbonator"?
A friend of mine was telling me about a turbonator ge was going to get for his car. He said it is a turbine that goes in your intake and is good for 35 horse (though, now that I think about it, he never said that it was an INCREASE of 35...).
Maybe everybody has one and I am just waaaay out of the loop, but I am going to guess probably not on that one.
Does anybody have one, has anybody heard anything about it, and does it work (I am guessing probably not on that one too).
Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

Products have been out a long time. I believe the concept even goes back as far as the good old carb days which some spacers would have helical rings cut into them.
Here's a thread for the turbonator
I'd do a wonderbar install before I would waste my money on one of those.

If he is lucky he only lost performance from the added weight ...

I'm not ancient or anything, but the spacers with the spirals
came out after the design the turbonater copies came out.
Not that any of them do squat.
My favorite is when I see an add for one of those for a turbo vehicle. ???? wtf, that impellor spinning 30-90k doesn't put enough spin on it already?
Never mind the throttle blades are in the way....
I won't buy from anyone who sells those products.
They are ok with ripping people off.

Kinda figured it was a joke. Thanks for verifying that.
The guy who told me about it drives a 1991 Honda CRX. What should I have expected differently.

In theroy it should work pretty well on a one cylinder engine. Not all that effective on anything bigger unless the install point is at a large limiting factor in the intake track. Not very likely thou.

Spinning the air will increase airflow but it doesnt matter if it has to stop spinning to get split up into the different cylinders. On a single cyclinder single valve engine, the airflow never encounters the turbulance created in a divided intake so the flow shouldnt slow down.

Where the hell is that gameshow ERRRRR you’re wrong buzzer… I could really use one.
Spinning air slows it down and increases it’s drag against the sidewalls of the passage that it goes through. Spinning air in general wastes energy that could be pushing it down the passage.
A great automotive example of this is a down pipe after a turbo. The trick to getting the most flow out of the smallest pipe is to stop it from spinning as it leaves the exducer as fast as possible, once you accomplish that you can neck the pipe down without any loss of flow.

Damned, I really promised myself to be soooo careful not to get ripped off again Oh well , its on its way now anyway, I have a 4 barrel carb so I'll give it a try anyway. Will let you know in case anything unexpected happens ! LOL !
