Red Ragtop get Torch Red
A good friend loaned me his paint booth, fully equipped with equipment and a nice fellow who helped tape the car prior to painting. Three coats of PPG Camaro Torch Red paint number 4228, went on, followed by three wet coats of clear. I noticed there were four different "Torch Reds" and I picked the brightest one, having a touch of orange.
The car looks awesome, I was lucky enough to find a convertible with an undamaged body, so all the panels are straight. The hood though, is not so good, having sustained various dings and dents while in storage in a boat building. Doesn't matter, as the hood will eventually be replaced with a Z28 style hood and louvers.
Torch Red is a violent red, while driving the car back from the paint shop, I noticed cars on the highway swerving lanes to get a better look. It is definately, "give me a ticket," red!
In a week or two, I'll start the color sanding and final polishing. Wow, this ragtop is coming back to life.

Re: Red Ragtop get Torch Red
No stripes for now. I still have to color sand and buff the clear. Next will be the interior, carpet, seats, door panels. Eventually I'll have to change the top too, but that's last. I'll probably be in SoCal before that comes up. Then, maybe then, I'll do some stripes.

Nice color! I am going to repaint my 1992 RS sometime. It's going to be painted the original color it was "dark bright teal". Can they match the codes somehow to that exact color? What kind of money would that be? Someone told me around $2,500.

[QUOTE=Aarons92Maro;3961733]Paint colors change over time, it's hard to match exactly, so you'll paint the whole car, right? When you get the codes for the exact color, the paint books will have a range of shades to match aging. I'm not sure which is the exact original, I just went with the color I liked. Can't tell you what it costs to paint a car, I hear all kinds of estimates. But I know I can paint my own in PPG basecoat/clearcoat for less than $600.

Re: Red Ragtop get Torch Red
How long will you be on-island?
----------
To tell the truth, this is the first paint job I did in a booth, all the others were done outside in carports or in a regular garage. The key is to pick the right day to shoot the paint, clean the area as much as possible, tie up the dogs, and use a basecoat/clearcoat paint. When the paint cures hard, color sand, then buff all the dust and bugs out. Thanks for the comments, they're appreciated!
