Oahu Redux
Well, after a year here in AZ it seems that I'll probably be coming back to Oahu to work for a couple of years and buy a condo. There's a job some people want me to do and it pays pretty good, so if it comes through I'll be back on the rock sometime in January.
My '92 and '87 will stay in AZ, so I'll be shopping for another 3rdGen Camaro, preferably a ragtop, 305 TPI, 5-speed. If anyone has a lead on a nice ThirdGen, let me know!
If anyone is looking for clean classic cars, there's lots in Kingman at good prices. I can drive it to the West Coast and ship it over [prepaid of course].

Re: Oahu Redux
Well, already got two nice Camaro ThirdGens, both hardtops. My options are to look for a Camaro tubbed racecar or a ragtop, preferably "fixer-uppers," since I plan to take it back to AZ and restore it in my workshop.
If I can't find those, I'll settle for any kind of junker, just for transportation, so please let me know about any cars for sale!
Watcha doin' down there in Tucson?
Thanks,
Ed

Re: Oahu Redux
Looks like Duck will be waddling back to Oahu on/about Feb 15, to stay a max of three years, maybe less.
It will feel odd, adapting from the dry climate of the SouthWest high desert, back to the tropical sticky humidity. And BUGS. Can't forget them, eh? During the whole year in AZ, not one walking or flying brown bomber in/around our house. Now I gotta stock-up on Raid and a big hammer ... Sheesh....
Best thing about coming back is, thanks to Stew's help, I'll have a Camaro ThirdGen convertible! Having been neglected, it will need some TLC and fixing [like a new fuel pump], but will be perfect after restoration.

Re: Oahu Redux
Any new news on the rag top? Haven't coordinated anything as of yet to take a look at it, but sight unseen, it does sound promising. Anyhoo...Rob says he's got an aluminum spare, if you want it.

Re: Oahu Redux
BTW, there's a ragtop down here in Phoenix for $800 that I'd sure like to stuff in my workshop! Check the Southwest forum if you're interested.
Yeah, hold onto that aluminum spare! What's the specs?
----------------------------------------------------------
Spare for 16 inch alloy wheels w/PBR calipers -- The spare wheel has a P195/75-D15 tire on a deep 15X5 rim. The P195 tire has a wide tread width and has "XUB" stamped next to the valve stem. The air canister is on the back side. 1991-92 Camaros came with this tire from GM.
4th Gen spare - The steel 16-inch wheel with a T135/60R tire from a 98-02 Camaro/Firebird also fits and is small enough for the trunk.

FYI I am scheduled to start work at Fort Shafter on March 17. Will call around when I get a computer connected.

Great! Hold on to it please, I'll come over in the next couple of weeks. I'm staying with friends in Palisades and getting some of the essential problems worked out of the '91 ragtop I bought, final price was $1,300, which is essentially a steal for a running automobile. It was sitting, unused for several years and there's a bunch of vacuum and electrical issues to fix, fortunately, the engine, running gear and body are in good shape.

Re: Oahu Redux - 91 Ragtop
Thanks to Stew and a good stroke of luck, a restorable thirdgen ragtop was available when I arrived on Oahu several weeks ago. The car was sadly neglected for a few years, sitting unused on the windward side. Fortunately, it was not left in the open, but all the non-painted steel underneath is severely rusted. The body and frame are straight, and don't have terminal rust.
It really needs paint, and an axle or pinion bearing is grinding itself to death, I know the rear and the driveshaft need to be replaced. The interior is shot, shocks are gone, electrical issues need fixing. Lots of stuff to do, but the car is driven daily, the top works good, and it's a ragtop!
More to follow, as the renovation proceeds.
Sorry about not getting together with my Camaro friends yet, my job is time-consuming and the weekends are eaten-up running around looking to buy a condo. Rob, haven't forgotten about the spare!
