Can anyone recommend any good paint shops in the Tacoma area?

Hi,
I'm finally ready to have my car painted, going to have a color change on it. I'm trying to find some reputable shops in the Tacoma/Puyallup/Lakewood type areas. But not really finding anything but Maccos, or collision places.

I want to have whatever place I choose, to do a color change (door, hatch and hood jams). And also replace all the weatherstripping while they are at it (t-top car). I also want them to be able to fix some dents, and also remove and seal up the mast antenna hole (I want to delete the antenna from the fender).

Does anyone know of any places around here, that will do a good job on the car?

Thanks!

Nobody has any recommendations?
The couple places I found, never got back to me. I'm kind of surprised with the economy the way it is, that they are not more proactive about getting back to people with a job like this.

The few places who do write back, I honestly think they just don't want to do the work.
The car is already sanded down to metal, one place just quoted me 7k and would take at least 3 months to replace the weatherstripping and paint it.

I was willing to spend around 5 max, and was hoping to at least drive it once this year!

Re: Can anyone recommend any good paint shops in the Tacoma area?

anyone know of any other places?
haven't heard back from Bernies yet.

Sucks all these places are only open m-f 8-5, and I work during the week and can't be on the phone calling them all. Plus the couple that have gotten back to me, want me to bring it in before they even give me a rough estimate. I don't really want to take a day off work to do this for every shop though.

Anyone else have their car painted recently and have positive feedback?

Re: Can anyone recommend any good paint shops in the Tacoma area?

I'm starting to get annoyed now.
A few places got back to me and are saying it will be 6k+
One was 8k and that didn't include the weatherstripping. Plus it would take at least 3 months.

Are these places just not wanting to do non-insurance work now, and quoting really high prices to make me not want it done there? I was thinking since I've sanded most of the exterior down already, that it would be in the 5k range.

Re: Can anyone recommend any good paint shops in the Tacoma area?

I don't know about WA but I do know that Oregon has some legislation regarding auto body repair that are somewhat anti competitive, making body repair pretty profitable. Also, the new paint these days cost a ton, so for materials alone you may be looking at ~$1000. There's also a huge amount of labor involved in auto body painting and restoration. The numbers are high, but if you figure in the actual labor and materials, 5-6 grand is normal for a paint job.

You could do what I did... paint it yourself. Sure it's going to look bad, but how does your car look now? Mine looks significantly better after my paint job (though still not great). However, it was a wonderful experience. That was one of my greatest car experiences. I dropped about $1000 in the end but I got a ton of tools, experience and a 30 foot paint job.

I'm OK with 5-6k that's about what I was expecting. But I'm getting quotes for starting at 8k and up and it will take them 3-6 months to do!! I've even sanded most of the car down to metal already. I thought that would save me a little bit of money, but not I think I just wasted all that time doing that.

I honestly think they places just don't want to mess with a non insurance job. They make more money on the insurance work, so they give really high quotes to jobs like this to make me keep looking.

How far are you willing to travel at this point? There is a shop in my town that has done work for me and my family in the past, but it's in Stanwood.

Re: Can anyone recommend any good paint shops in the Tacoma area?

I've been wondering the same thing...
I was planning on going with Mike from Mike's rides street rods and customs. Hes got a shop in Buckley http://mikesrides.dennissoltis.com/?page_id=98
Lately though he has been extremely slow in responding to my emails. So I might need to find another shop.
All my interior has already been removed along with the engine and wiring. I'm trying to get my entire car painted a new color, black. Need the SFCs and new battery tray welded in as well. Oh and I have some rust in the T-top area that needs fixing.
Amorget how long do you think a turn-around would be for the shop you're talking about?

Re: Can anyone recommend any good paint shops in the Tacoma area?

Honestly I have no idea on turn around, when he fixed a fender on my 2000 Trans Am that was a cash deal it was only like 2 days, but that was just a fender. When my mom had her minivan painted there it took a lot longer, however a bunch of that time was spent waiting for the custom vinyl to come in.

The place is called Funderburke's, which is the owners last name. Phone number is (360) 629-2352 ‎

I'd just say give him a call and ask. I am sure most of it depends on how much he has queued up.
