UMI roll call P.A. AutoX event
Almost signup time! Who is going back again or looking to come this year? For those that are coming back are you making any big changes to your car for more grip or power?
I’m going to a msd intake and 102mm t/b for power and maybe dual 3” exhaust. Looking to add a bump steer kit and maybe front sway bar change along with better tires.

Hey, what's the latest story with your engine? Did you pull it or leave it in?

I got the email for the early-signup tomorrow at Noon, so if all goes well with registering, I will be signing up. Hopefully this crazy world still exists in 4 months time though!

It can stay in for this year long as it holds together. Not sure what my next move for the engine at the end of this summer had a few different thoughts like a new TSP short block or just throw some boost at it but would like to do a 427 LT1 but doubt I will throw that kind of money at it LoL but would love to see what a 427 lt would make for power since the 6.2 lt with heads cam and intake can crank out 600whp now.

Re: UMI roll call P.A. AutoX event
Im starting to wonder if our cars just stink at autox seems like the thirdgens get crushed out there overall year after year. I cant be the only one to notice that? Even looking at the fastest thirdgens they might be close to the middle of the field out of a 100 plus cars. Anyone else got any input on this?

yup! that Falken 660 is my top pick so far. They are so new that I cant find much out there about actual reviews, but waht I have found does sound promising. They come in sizes that will work with my wheels both in the performance realm and in the visual look of the tire profile too.

I'll be there again this year, along with the Drive X events. It's my favorite event of the year, hands down.
Some decent changes are done, some in progress and others that may not be finished prior to; we'll see what happens. 😉

I'm in and signed up for the Autocross Challenge. The changes for me this offseason are more towards making the car more reliable and easy to drive. Holley EFI, new seat and harness, etc. My suspension and tire setup is already way ahead of me as a driver.
Regarding the comment that 3rd gens are never at the top of the list - I don't think it means they stink at autocross. I just think it's hard to compare them to newer Camaros, Mustangs and Corvettes that have had 30 years more engineering development. With enough money you can certainly make one competitive, but to me the fun is finding budget-friendly upgrades that let me hang with the newer cars for a quarter of the price. I used to have C5 Corvette before my Camaro and it felt 1000x faster but I prefer the challenge of making an old car go fast around corners... even if I'm not at the top of the leader board.

Re: UMI roll call P.A. AutoX event
I got a bit on-edge after reading that the tires I wanted to buy are in extremely short supply. So I just decided to place the order on tire-rack, knowing that if the 255 fronts were out of stick and back-ordered, I could cancel them and shop elsewhere. So, last night I ordered the 295 (rear) and there were only 6 in stock at that time. The 255 fronts said back-ordered. Today I got an email and a phone call from tire rack, saying that they are in extreme short supply of the 255 size but there are some in Nevada that they could ship to me. i said, sure thing. He apologized that it might take another 6 days to get them to me, but I told him its way better than me not being able to get them at all. he mentioned that these tires all manufactured in Asia and shipped over, but there is currently a severe shortage of tires coming across the ocean since Covid. he said, once these go out of stock, it might be a while before they are back. So I am fortunate for jumping on this now, as I did not think about ordering until late May early June. All 4 tires should be here within a week, but I might wait until June to mount them since I have to get a roll bar welded in the car and a few other things next.

The main party has moved to the track now so the host hotel isn't as critical as a place to stay. We'll be there for the autocross challenge and KOTM. Bringing the Camaro this year instead of the GTA.

Update: Blew the motor in the Camaro at Willow Springs at the end of May so the GTA will be racing east all season while we get the new motor into the Camaro. The party at the track will be epic again this year.

whew, blew it up eh? damn, sorry to hear that.
update: car is mostly ready, I am going to do an autocross this Sunday to get used to how the car feels with the new roll-bar and the new Falken tires. I am excited for next weekend, and I am hoping for awesome weather.

Re: UMI roll call P.A. AutoX event
Bummer on blowing the motor Tom, but you're lucky to have a half decent backup car! I just got my car running last weekend with the new Holley EFI system and promptly found a big vacuum leak from a broken intake gasket. I have a new one being rush ordered to me this week. Just like last year, the first real test drive will likely be the first autocross run!
I'll add on to FullMonte77's parts list and say that I have quite a few items I am looking to sell,,, I'd be happy to give someone a deal and bring any of these to the event to save me time and money from the shipping:
- Lingenfelter Super Ram intake w/ fuel rails, throttle bracket, all hardware and gaskets
- ACCEL high flow TPI base
- 1987 TPI engine wiring harness and computer (modified to remove AIR system and few other tweaks)
- Stock 1987 gauge cluster
Shoot me a DM if anyone is interested.

Re: UMI roll call P.A. AutoX event
It was only 5 of the 8 pistons missing pieces. Heads are fine so was the rest of the rotating assembly and block. 2 week turnaround on the rebuild including shipping round trip to Texas Speed for the work. Car should be running again in early August once I get a non-racing weekend free to put the motor back in. Annoying and expensive but it happens. So we're back to the OG race car and having fun.

Re: UMI roll call P.A. AutoX event
nice, I had my car out today for a local car show. I gotta pack it full of tools on Thursday morning and then hit the road.
We should try to get a photo of ALL the third-gens at the end of this event. People were taking photos on the banked turn by the flags as I left last year, and it would have been cool to do. Maybe, if the time and weather cooperates, if you guys want to try to get a group thirdgen photo, I'll ask Ryan or Ramey and maybe we can do it after they do their website photos and such.
Just a thought.

Eh, anyone can do pics. We upped the red neck ante this year with an inflatable truck bed swimming pool. We're trying to convince Ryan to let us take people for laps around the oval in it for charity donations.

Re: UMI roll call P.A. AutoX event
Just when I thought everything was in place for a great weekend, a complete curveball comes my way. During my drive out to the event i had a misfire, and checking the holley sniper handheld I realized that there was a fuel issue because it was compensating by adding a TON of fuel. Determined that one of the 4 injectors in the holley sniper throttle body is not flowing any fuel; verified this by looking down the barrels. 3 of the injectors spray fuel, the front passenger side does not. Chatted with Tom, Ramey and a bunch of people here while trying to source a replacement. Apparently Holley uses a non-available style/specification of injectors, and when people's injectors fail, they require the sniper to be shipped back to holley for repair. Kinda not what I had hoped to hear, 230 miles from home, and less than a few hours before my favorite autocross event of the year. O'Rileys auto parts has an LS# injector that may fit, but it only flows about half the fuel 942 pounds) compared to the 100 pound holley injector. I ordered it anyways, it is Standard Motor parts PN FJ988 and it wont be in their store here by the track until 4pm tomorrow, which is when day 12 of autocross ends.
Not sure what I am going to do, would hate to sit the event out before I even make one lap. I could run it on 3 injectors and just add a ton of fuel to the other 3 injectors to compensate..because it is a TBI setup. Man, of all the weekends for something to fail, it had to be this weekend. jeez

It will screw with fuel distribution to cylinders. Some are going to run leaner than normal. Be careful running engine hard....

Re: UMI roll call P.A. AutoX event
Was awesome to catch up with a couple of you at the event. I was of course the slowest 3rd gen. Not that I expected not to be as I have pretty much stock drivetrain in my car. I did however find the limits of what the tires would hold. Last year I couldn’t drive it hard enough to get it even close to loose. Thought my posi unit was not really working right but I think it was just because of the right rear unloading in the switchback. Other than that the car worked really well and the brakes were great. LS1 brakes was the best upgrade I have done to the car so far.

what a great event! Awesome cars, awesome people, and getting to push these cars harder and harder lap after lap is a true joy. It was great hanging out with you fellas that I already have met, and also I was glad to meet a few more of you as well. It will be a few days before I have time to upload my photos and videos, but I promise I will get to it and post some stuff up.
Well done everyone!

I cant read the photographers name/signature in the bottom corner, but if they took a lot of photos and have a gallery, feel free to post up the link to it!
