New combo, new PB. N/A SBC
After about 2 years of down time, finally got the new combo to the track.
434 sbc, edelbrock heads, Holley EFI, PG trans, 4.33 gears.
First time using a trans brake. Left at 3500 (very conservative) and shifted at 6800 instead of 8500 to keep the nose down. Lots more left in this combination.
Got out of the throttle just before the 1/8th mile markers.
Stats of interest:
60' 1.269
330' 3.743
1/8 5.81
mph 118.18
1/4 9.753
mph 105.85

15 degree Edelbrock, titanium valves. Has a 2-piece intake that was converted to EFI by Hogan’s. Really really big solid roller cam, LS firing order. Holley EFI with coil near plug ignition and cam sync, 83 lb/hr injectors and Accufab throttle body (dominator flange). Stepped headers. 2” to 2 1/8”. 4 in collectors.
8” converter with 6800 stall, pro brake. Carbon fiber drive shaft, strange 12-bolt with 4.33 pro gears and spool.

Got off it at the 1/8th. Don’t have a license yet. Will take care of that in the spring.
using Hoosier 29x10’s on double bead locked Billet Specialties 15x10’s.
When we make a full pass it should be around 8600 at the stripe.

freakin awesome
Just noticed that you are from New Jersey also. There are a good bunch of us NJ guys here with some pretty well modded 3rd gens. Yours is levels above mine, but its nice to know I might see you around at the track one day. I'm local to Island, but made it to Atco only once this year.

Thanks for all the kind words. I have been racing at NJ tracks since the late 90's and the car has seen many upgrades over the years. I keep chipping away at it.
Hope to hit Atco, Island and Cecil in 2021. If you see the car there, stop by. Always good to see fellow third-genners!

if I see ya there, I will certainly stop by !
I see you run a 2" stepped header. are they a custom build (like Ed Quay or Lemons) or more of a main-stream catalog order?

Re: New combo, new PB. N/A SBC
nice work with the headers, and thank you for posting photos for me.
I think I will need bigger headers than my 1 3/4" dyno dons' for my engine once I put the nitrous to it. its a dart 406 sbc making 531 hp N/A at crank and I will be spraying it with a 200 wet shot.. so I am starting to look around for possible long tube header options. Not finding too much, and the price of a custom set of headers is tough to swallow. Its a full street/strip/autoX/show combination so I can't run a low hanging long tube header. New jersey streets would destroy them.
Thanks for posting photos.
I'm keeping subscribed to this thread too, in hopes that in 2021 I can go to a track day with some of the people here.

Re: New combo, new PB. N/A SBC
Hope to see some fellow thirdgenners are the tracks next year.
As for weight, I am 225 so car by itself weighs 2825. Still have some more to shave if needed. Has stock rear window and decklid, stock doors. Beyond that I am going to have to get really creative or back half the car to lose more. Only has an 8.50 cage in it so I figured leave it as is and see what it runs in the spring. Hoping to get to Cecil a few times. Only about 90 minutes from me.
For headers, there was no "off the shelf" option I could find. I contacted Lemons and gave them the combo and they said it was be better to have a custom set made where the fabricator had the car in front of them. American Racing in the Carolinas wanted the car for at least 2 weeks to do the job. Had my chassis guy in Connecticut fab the headers when he was doing the anti-roll bar and rack conversion.

Nicely done Fastbird. Have always been a fan of the 91-92 Formulas. Those are impressive runs for first time out. I am from New Jersey as well and have been racing almost 30 yrs. I currently have a 1990 Camaro with a pump gas 383.
where did you purchase the carbon fiber drive shaft?
Thanks, Frank

NICE !
What's your compression ratio? assuming you are running race fuel and not pump gas for that kind of N/A power
My 421 SBC will be due for inspection/refresh next couple of seasons. I want to stay N/A so a bigger solid roller cam and maybe some more CR will be planned.
When then did they start offering the LS firing order for the SBC/BBC cams?
I am dating myself a bit; the 4/7 swap used to to be thing to do on SBC/BBC.
LS also swaps position of 2/3 compared to the SBC/BBC (you made me do some homework today)
SB/BBC firing order: -1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2
SB/BBC 4/7 swap:--- 1-8-7-3-6-5-4-2
LS firing order:-------1-8-7-2-6-5-4-3

12.9:1 CR
Cam Specs: Cam Motion Inc. 268/274 @ 0.050" .748 Intake lift (1.7) .688 Exhaust lift (1.6) LCS 108
I use Sunoco "standard" 110 fuel which I can buy locally and store in my 55 gal. drum at home.
What fuel are you using for 15.2:1 ? I am guessing 116 octane at least.
3008# w/o driver & half tank of fuel
3220# w/ me suited & w/ helmet
How did you guys get another 183# out of the F-body? I did all the "normal" weight reduction mods
I have a t-top model so maybe my roof weighs more than the hard-top?

Re: New combo, new PB. N/A SBC
Using C25 fuel for now. Might switch to Q16 in the future.
Weight reduction is all of the small things plus a few. Removed gas tank and have a fuel cell in the nose. Converted to rack steering. Ditched rear sway bar in favor of lighter anti-roll bar. Optic Armor Windshield. Aluminum battery cable going to the front. Nose is being held up by a chromoly skeleton instead of factory pieces. Carbon Fiber Driveshaft saves a little. PG vs. TH400 saves a little. Factory wiring is almost completely removed and car was totally rewired. Like I said, all the usual things plus a little.

Re: New combo, new PB. N/A SBC
I am sure if somebody tinkered with the VFN 'glass doors the factory tracks, glass, & door cards could be integrated.
I removed the crash bars out of my factory doors, that was 6# per door.
I could remove more weight by down grading to manual windows; not sure how much the power window motors weigh but my guess is at least 5# each.
Change all the factory glass to optic armor but that is $.
I still have the complete windshield wiper assembly in this thing; LOL time for that to go.
10# here, 10# there,, it all adds up.. Last winter I removed 204# ( the strange front disc and manual rack & pinion removed 48#)
I think there is a bit more to remove this winter without spending money after that it will cost $$ to lose more weight.

Re: New combo, new PB. N/A SBC
Nice! I would love to pull a good 100-150 pounds out of my car. Sometime soon the 6 point roll bar will be getting installed (mild steel) so that's going to add in some weight. I would like to offset that weight by finding ways to remove weight from the car withOUT buying lightweight replacement parts. I know there are a few threads on this board about just that topic. I got to dig into those this winter and then dig into the car after that. Still, its primarily a street car, and after that a strip, show, autocross car. If I could remove 150 pounds, and not spend too much to do so, I would be thrilled. Car weighs 3,440 without me in it. all details are in my build thread(s).

That is correct. First 1/8th mile pass we left at 3500 on the trans brake and shifted at 6600 to keep it calm.
this pass we left at 3800 and shifted at 8000. Front end is still chained down with only 3” of travel and I haven’t touched the shock settings yet
