What year s-10 box?
Wanting to convert my son's 88 t/a drag race only over to manual steering while we have the engine out. I've tried searching and couldn't find an exact year or part number for the s-10 box.

84+ is the 4 bolt top cover steering box. It's a direct fit although the pitman arm is a slightly different length and can be easily changed if you have access to a puller. The different length pitman arm will change the turning circle. The steering shaft will bolt right up.
Pre 84 boxes are the 3 bolt top cover. Although they will fit, they use a different size input shaft.
A manual steering box can only be found in S10/15 that has a 4 cylinder engine but not all 4 cylinder S10 came with manual steering.

Re: What year s-10 box?
About 10 years ago, I was pulling them from a local junkyard when I could find them and selling them on Ebay. Junkyard prices have skyrocketed making a high priced Ebay sale hard to justify so I stopped looking for them.
Local parts store should carry them but they won't be cheap but at least it will be new. Just quote off a 1985 S10 with a 2.5L engine.

Looks like around $195 plus a $150 core.

Local parts store thinks they might be able to get one. Speedway has the earlier box and has a pitman arm that fits the smaller output shaft for G bodies. Looks like G bodies and third gens use the same power pitman arm. Might be an option.

Local parts store found one. $268 out the door. No shipping & they took our power box as a core. A little more than we wanted to spend but, shed a few pounds & one less thing to leak on the track.

Considering 80's vehicles are getting harder and harder to find in the junkyard, you need to start paying for parts store parts. At least you know it's now and not worn out and they got you the correct box.
