New Autocross Class - Classic American Muscle (CAM)
http://solomatters.com/introducing-c...can-muscle-cam
My local region director just posted this up on facebook. Im not sure how official it is, but apparently our region is going to run it (although Im probably, as of now, the only one eligible)
This year it's regional only... so no national competitions.. but they seem to understand that these kind of cars see things like cam swaps fairly often, when only the most extreme of import cars get them, so just ar ebuild with a slightly more aggressive cam will throw our cars in with the wolves in Street Modified or C-Prepared...
So maybe this becomes a big thing... Interesting. Gets me out of having to dice it out with the rally carts and germans.

The new class will allow all American built cars that are front engine, rear wheel drive a place to compete. All of the cars in the new CAM class will run on 200 tread wear street tires. This fits in with the idea that all of the cars are street legal. All of the cars will need to be street legal, insured and licensed. All of the cars will need to have interiors. The engine and drive train are unrestricted. The class will give people a place to run if they have a 1955 Chevrolet, a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, a 2013 Dodge Challenger, a 1970 Ford Mustang or any other American built car.

We run a class "STM" which is like this but not restricted to american cars, just have to run real street tires (not DOT stamped r-comps) and be registered/insured, and a couple other small things... It really brings a lot of people out with modified street cars and lets them run "heads up" if you will. I enjoy it, this new class should be good

I'm in Street Modified, so the pax kills me. Im getting better every event, though. Im not expecting to really be competitive until I get my 17's on the car, though. Im thinking about jumping to CP since the pax is actually easier in that class than it is in SM.

I have autocrossed a fair amount of cars in my short time racing and unfortunately, I haven't raced an Evolution or a STI yet. I have raced a Golf R and I'm not the biggest fan of AWD.
What mods knocked you out of STX or STU?

We've been running CP in Phoenix and CA. We're usually the only car in the class. But SCCA is just practice seat time for other events so it doesn't really matter that much. No aspirations to run in Nationals again since we like to street drive the car. It'll be interesting if this class attracts the people they want to draw in which is the group competing at GoodGuys and the OUSCI feeder events. If those guys show up and run here instead of CP, the class could get really interesting.

I don't really see anyone around my town with a muscle car to run in this new class unless they always keep their car in the garage.
To InfernalVortex: I would suggest to stay in SM and get better. Then you could get them to fear you.

I like the idea of a new class. I run in ESP and am getting clobbered by AWD turbo ricers. I have some ideas for the mods for next season, I need to study to see what class that would put me in.

From ESP you most likely get dumped straight into SM. Even worse. ESP is probably our most competitive class, and the only other class we stand a chance is CP, and those are fully prepped, stripped out race cars. But all the crazy AWD turbo car guys dont ever bother going that far (I guess they like their interiors?) so they stay out of CP and the index is actually easier than SM, which means we should be in CP even if we qualify for SM.

I like the idea even more! It looks like we will have this in my region. No engine/drivetrain restrictions! Time for a 383/TKO combo, or maybe an LS/TKO...Its about time.
