Yellow Bullet pics/updates, and new 370/t56 times/videos

This weekend at Cecil County Dragway in Rising Sun, MD has got to be the baddest small tire race in the northeast all year. Gates opened wednesday for the early birds coming in, but mostly people started showing up yesterday. those who tested yesterday paid a premium at $200/head

I got there bright and early this morning, around 9am or so. it was still expensive to test ($100/head today) but worth it for me since i have such little seat time. I unloaded, and got the wheels tires over to the M/T trailer where my good friend Buddy L. got me set up with a fresh set of 26x10.0Stiff's. we thought we were going to put tubes in too, but have to drill the valve stem hole out to a 5/8" hole and the way my wheels were built just wouldn't have that. so, we decided to try it without them. After a quick IC adjustment, I was ready to make my first pass.

first pass was an eye opener it seems that the car has responded well to the higher rpm shift point, and smaller tires (ie, poor mans gear change). 11.05 @ 125 on a 1.57 60'. felt like a rocket once it hooked, though there was a slight bog to note. launch speed at 5500 rpm, 13psi in the slicks.

talked to Buddy about how it reacted, he said to up the pressure (who knew?!) ~.5-1psi and go up on launch speed. back up around and 5900 launch rpm, 13.75psi, BAM! 10.95 @ 126.2 on a 1.54 60'. i can deal with that. backed it up with a 10.96 @ 126.7. .033 and .081 lights repectively.

pic of the new 26x10's, i'm surprised, i think i prefer them, lol

there are 450 cars here so far, and we haven't even gotten into qualifying or eliminations. i'll keep this thread posted as the weekend goes.

for now, here's a couple more thirdgens (not all of them) that are at the event.

Re: Yellow Bullet pics/updates, and new 370/t56 times/videos

I'll get it on YouTube tonight so i can linkit here.

About 2 hours ago we did first round qualifier, I upped the launch rpm to 6000 and upper air to 14psi only to spin hard to a 1.70, and went 11.05 @ 125.

There are over 500 cars here. I'll try to get some more vids and pics when I can.

Yes, the red sportcoupe is a Jeff's car. He's number 3 right now in ultra street with a 5.12 @ 138

Live feed is at www.motormaniatv.com

Re: Yellow Bullet pics/updates, and new 370/t56 times/videos

the gears are still in GA, maybe later this winter. going through traps at 6600 so i definitely could use the 4.30s i think.

Today didn't start out quite as great as yesterday but ended well. I had a brain fart after we got into the staging lanes and didn't check tire pressure before pulling into the burnout box and the tires had been baking in the sun for nearly an hour in the lanes. when i got back to the pits i check tire pressure and it tells the tale as to why it spun so badly. 1.70 sixty, nothing really to report on that pass at all other than it spun like mad. tire pressure had risen a full psi.

2nd hit was a different story though. the sun went behind the clouds, it was about 5pm or so and was starting to cool off a bit. i made sure i was at the optimal 13.75psi in the tires, and taught my wife how to use the tire pressure gauge. i'm hoping to give her the responsibility so we can do last minute checks after i'm strapped in. they were good to go and i suited up. everything about the pass was pretty excellent (except for the light). it went 10.91 @ 126.66 on a 1.55 sixty. my confidence in the car and my driving is increasing. i'm pretty happy.

it was hot today, even Roxy thought so

here's the pass

also met a fellow TGOer "zz4iroc". he stopped by for a quick coil spring trim

all in all a very good day.

it is note worthy that i looked back to see what the car did with the th400 in similar air conditions. granted i also changed the cam/intake, but i think it still gives a decent comparison.

previously:
2400' DA, 10.8x's @ 124ish, 3275lbs

currently:
2300' DA, 10.9x's @ 126ish, 3460lbs.

Doing great Matt, the more seat time the more natural the t56 will become.

it's coming around, for sure. i'm impressed with the trap speeds, especially at this weight.

here's a pic of the car launching. hasn't pulled the tires yet, but it's still a cool pic i think

They say up ain't forward, lol. Looks like it cannot leave any more straight than it is. Guess that th400 holds back compared to the gears in the t56. Well, as you said, hard to say since it is not identical engine combo.

Re: Yellow Bullet pics/updates, and new 370/t56 times/videos

Well, had a great weekend! Went out first round, but I got a ton of data and learned some stuff. I made a rookie stick shift mistake, pulled the 3-4 shift towards me instead of straight back, jammed the stick into the gate. Trans is ok, still shifts smooth but was a big hit to the pride, especially cause I treed the crap outta ole dude and was running him down hard. Best pass of the weekend ended up being a 10.91 @ 126.6. Gonna put more gear in it, fool with the carb more, maybe put the spacer in, and generally get more seat time. Going to training in KS for two weeks so probably won't hit it up again till October.

Darrell is a good friend of mine and he is definitely a good dude. He is on the left side of that picture wearing the black TSI shirt with the #31 on the front.

Matt your car sound completely isolated in sound compared to all the other SBC and BBC cars out there. That LS motor screams! Third gen's were representing for sure this weekend.

The real crappy part of the whole weekend for me was hooking in the left lane 1st round pro street...and then the 1st round of pro dial blowing the tires off in the right lane. This car never spins, so i dont know what happened...they did mop something before i staged.

Guess ill have to switch to slicks when these radials are done...or put the 80# weight bar back in the trunk

The et drags I just got in that size work great at 11 pounds for me. At 12.5 I was surprised the skipped and then hooked with the tight converter.

I wanna see how you do with the gear swap Matt! I am trying to avoid it with the th400 being a street car, but if I go 4L80....idk. The 80 builders say something about not shifting beyond 7000? What kind of crap is that?

I was a little concerned after checking out the Mickey Thompson tech bulletin on inflation pressures.

Going to training in KS for two weeks so probably won't hit it up again till October.
matt, enjoyed the video, thanks for the ride-a-long.

awesome numbers man! put mine back together on monday and went for a run out on the highway, think my pinion angle issue is solved. don't worry about the missed gear, happens to the best of us.

where abouts in KS will you be training?
