15" wheels, aluminum heads, small block chevy and what looks like a bolt on fiber glass hood, you should be at least 500 pounds lighter than what you think.

Great times, I think you could go 11.9's with a better 60.

Re: got 12.5 heading for 11.90

Something is definitely missing in your 60 foot. I run 11.70's at 115 and you are trapping faster than me and your ET is half a second slower. I would try to figure out what happening in the first 60 feet and then you will really start to lower that ET.

Oh but congratulations on the new best time!

Re: got 12.5 heading for 11.90

What is your launch RPM when you dump the clutch?

I assume you are power shifting down the track?

112-116 MPH should get you into high 11s but that all depends on how much weight you are moving down the track and how much HP the motor has.

I don't know the last the time the scale at GLD was calibrated/certified, it used to be "out of order" most of the time before, but with NHRA certification they may have finally gotten it fixed.

3,670 # car + 230 # driver = 3900 #

I can believe that especially if you added; roll cage, sfcs, driveshaft loop, and the rest of the car is pretty much stock.

Have fun ! your car looks great.

Re: got 12.5 heading for 11.90

The biggest issue is me!! I cut an ok light but launch rpm is way too low now...with new drag slicks only made two runs Saturday first launch was at 1500 all most killed engine it lugged so bad
The second run was better 2500 rpm... need to be higher... like 4000 and slip it to 3500. I NEED TO POWER SHIFT I Have BEEN SHIFTING LIKE GRANNY ANNY FANNY...

Thanks for the comments and advice would like to get in the 11 second range going to GLD September 2 try it again….

With a 9-bolt, it's probably a good thing you're leaving at that low of rpm lol. Get a 9" or equivilant in there before it blows!

Re: got 12.5 heading for 11.90

Im running 2 tenths faster on a 10 bolt andrew. No issues with the rear end if its beefed up. you do see his 60 foot times on the slips right??? lol Ive made at least 100 passes running 1.80's-1.90's and most of them were with a stock rear end that was open. So running 60 foot times like he is, isnt going to wound it till he gets lower. Then he may need to beef it up a bit depending on his goals of the set up. Either mod that 10 bolt well or go to a different rear end. Ive got 12 slips so far in the mid 1.70s with no issues. Fingers crossed.

For the OP get those 60 foots down and youll be dropping the ets alot. Your last slip says 1.97s 60 foot times and you went 12.24? You have alot more time to shave off once you get that puppy down in the 1.70s and 1.60's

lol, comparing a soft turbo auto launch to a nasty violent high rpm clutch launch...two totally different animals. that 9 bolt is on borrowed time if he grows a set.

My turbo launch isnt too soft anymore. It launches @ 3k with 6psi of boost.

But i understand where your going. I agree that it would be in his best interest to get a different rear end. Because one day when he really dumps it, the car may go nowhere..lol

Re: got 12.5 heading for 11.90

Last year I exploded a 9" with a stock Ls1 and a set of slicks. Dropping fhe clutch at high rpm is violent compared to ANY automatic trans launch.

To the OP, I'm impressed, your car is making some great power!

I would try power shifting only for now, that will make a BIG difference in ET / MPH

I would not dump the clutch at 3500-4000 with a 9 bolt, it will not last long.

LOL, years ago I foot-braked my turbo700 to 2500 & sheared 8 teeth off the ring gear on my 10 bolt.. Remember I still ran a mid 12.. @ 103 MPH

As much as love rowing thru the gears (my daily driver is a Jeep with a 6 speed) for drag racing an automatic has some advantages.

your car is amazingly fast for the combo, and i'm very proud of what you've done.

however, a 1.7x 60' isn't fast in the grand scheme of things. we were able to keep the 10 bolts alive into the low 1.6x range with a footbraked auto. his car is capable of bottom 1.5's with a rearend he can trust and suspension tune dialed so well beyond where i would trust a 10 bolt at as well as the pure nasty shock of a clutch.

to the OP, are you willing to do a 4000ish rpm clutch slip? i know it's not easy and basically impossible to do that with any consistency.

Do you still have the same combo from the original post? Where did you pick up the 4 MPH? I want to be right around 116 - 117 with mine as well.

Re: got 12.5 heading for 11.90

Thanks for all the interest I am running basically the same setup I had last year... I did some dyno tuning at the school I work at. The carburetor was real lean and timing was off the advantage of working at an automotive collage. However I miss-typed some info Last year the heads are Chevy 487X with big valves and port work the Edelbock heads were gone when I got the motor.. I have been running a small shot of spray on it 150 hp this whole time my goal is to hit hi elevens and back it up with this current setup. The nine bolt is on borrowed time for sure I do have a T/A support cover on it and I did add some welds to the housing when I installed the relocation brackets running synthetic 85/140 oil in it.. My kingdom for something better that I can afford...anyone want my left kidney?? 4.11 in a nine inch would be great … The G force trans has a tall overdrive so this would work well for street duty last time I ran the 12:24 I was out of the hole at 2500 hundred using the line lock to hold in staging lights I slipped it out the clutch quickly just barely from bogging it this time. The first run was just off idle and punched almost killed the engine... I am running true Drag slicks at this time they grip very well a lot better than my ten year old ET streets!!! Hoping to get in the elevens 2 September at GLD!!!

He's getting those 60' times by leaving like he is. If he decides to drop the clutch at 4000+, like Matt said, he'll be bottom 1.5x. With a broken 9-bolt to go with it. Mark, you need to get a 9" in there SOON. I know you got a deal on that 10-bolt, but get rid of it before it blows. Everyone on here knows drag racing with a 7.5 is a ticking time bomb. All the mods on a 10/9 bolt won't change the fact that it's still a 7.5" ring diameter. You need more contact or you'll be shearing off teeth in no time. It's done good so far, but you've only just started hitting those 1.7x 60' times. Sure, it's surviving now, but for how long?

what u could do is buy a jy 9inch then u get a cheap center section/posi
then u can buy a bolt in 9 inch housing for 400 bucks and a set of axles for another 200

the stock 9inch center housing and posi will be fine for a turbo v6 car , and cost way less then buying a complete bolt in 9inch or 12 bolt package
