2012 racing season completed
The last racing here was this past weekend. Friday night was a make-up for 2 previous rain-outs in the "Club Clash" series. That hasn't gone too well for me this year, and wasn't much different this time. Started off with another rain delay at the very beginning of time trials (only 2 cars went down track before they shut down), but the car count was low so they dried the track and got started. Two more delays during eliminations, but it didn't make much difference for me because I went out first round (again). Good part is our club had a member in each of the finals, and one of them won. Overall, our club finished in first place for the season.
Saturday was "fall series", 4 basic classes (Super Pro, Pro, Trophy, and Senior) plus sleds and a women-only race. Again rain, cold, but we kept at it. I went out 2nd round of Senior, was still in Pro about to run the 3rd round at 10 p.m. when it started to rain again, they said they'd finish the race for all classes Sunday morning. Well, I had obligations at church Sunday morning, so I had to forfeit that one (the gal I was lined up with before the rain did well after that).
Sunday I got out to the track a little after noon, they were in the first time trial session for the Sunday race. I was in Senior and Pro again, managed to get in 4 time trials (2 per class allowed). Weather was much nicer, warmer, clear, and the track in good shape. I finally started cutting decent lights, made it to the 5th round of Pro, which was the quarter finals, when the car picked up and I broke out .009 more than the other guy (who ended up winning the race and the $1000 that went with it). In Senior, I managed to take on all comers for the winner's trophy and a $25 certificate to Old Chicago. Car ran a best-ever-at-altitude 12.695 backing off (on the time slip - calculated based on 1000' time, would have run a 12.65).
For the season, I ended up in 4th place in the summer Street ET class, and 2nd place in the fall Senior class (1 point behind the champ). I won 6 races in 5 different classes, plus 3 runner-ups and a few quarterfinals. Since I spread the wealth out so much, it didn't equate to good season points totals, but still not too bad of a year.
Over the winter, I plan on putting together a 4-inch stroke 6.0 with L92 heads with a 4L80E behind it for the '57. It hasn't been to the track since June '10, people keep asking about it (including this past weekend). We'll see how it turns out.

408 and big AOD, sounds like it will be driven to the track then? Lol
Hopefully I can get into racing the way you do. All I ever did was play on the street for cash here and there. But the track was always for tuning.

The cylinder walls of the 6.0 are pretty clean, can still see crosshatch after 147k miles, so we'll probably only take it .005" over. So, it'll be closer to a 402. Should still have a good bit more power than the .030"-over 396 that used to live there.
But, you are correct, it will be street driven. I don't have a trailer, or a place to keep one (although I do have a truck capable of towing). So, I drive to the track, take the highway tires off the rear and bolt on slicks, reverse the process for the drive home.

Well, I was running the stick car last Friday when I went out 1st round (slowed down 2 tenths on me). Saturday and Sunday, I was running the 4L60E car.
If you do go manual and racing is your primary use, get a Liberty or Jerico. You'll also need a clutch that slips on launch. These two things will basically make the car unstreetable.

The car I've driven to work the last three days (and will tomorrow, and next week) went 11.95 @ 114 mph. Guess I'll have to post the slip to make it real.
