Re: New fastest ET

okay cool! Thanks guys. Which series carburetor do you guys think would work best? The quickfuel 650 ss series or the q-series? Not sure if the q-series will eliminate street driving or not? Also am not sure if the ss series will perform as well as the q-series.

Re: New fastest ET

Well...the slayer series 600 would probably work great for youand is half the price...but if you want a 650 carb i would say either proform 67199 or QFT-Q-650 the quickfuel q series.

Re: New fastest ET

Would a slayer series be able to support mid 11 second times? (not what im running but what i am aiming for) I thought there would be no way that carb would even support my high 11 second times, lol. Also, i thought the vacuum secondaries on the carb would leave me with the same stumble off take off. If it would work for my setup i defintely would not be against spending half the money, lol.

Re: New fastest ET

I went 12.10 on a 600 years ago

A 650cfm was fine on my 590hp 355 now...so im sure the 600 would be fine for 11s. I dont care for the vacuum secondaries...but they should work no problem if youre ok with it.

I also went 10.1x on a qjet...so i would opt to fix that 1st.

Not sure why the Q series would eliminate street driving. I run a 650 Mighty Demon which has no choke horn like the Q series. I have no problem with street driving. On a cold morning I just give the gas pedal two pumps, and then slightly hold down the gas for a minute or two to get some heat in the motor. After that its fine. And I run 112 mph in the quarter too, so power wise we are very close.

Just curious if you tested anything larger on that motor to verify carb size wasnt a restriction

Re: New fastest ET

yeah, i picked up .5 on my old 305 going from a 600 to a 650...and that was from a 13.7 to a 13.2, so i'd imagine that it would have been even bigger gains on a faster combo

the car needs a mechanical secondary, and it probably needs to be in the 650-750 range

Yeah that is exactly along the lines of what i was thinking i needed for this combo.

86iroc2try - Also the main reason i am moving away from the q-jet is the adapter plate i have on there now.

Thanks again for all your help guys i will probably go with a 650 q-series quickfuel. Seems to be a carb that atleast everyone here can agree on,lol.

Re: New fastest ET

If you get the smaller carb you will regret it if you ever end up building a larger motor. The price of a custom carb compared to regular carb really isnt as scary as u think. Just like the converter you are setting up they can get a carb really close right off the bat... jmo though.. Here is a link
http://bigsperformance.com/ I have the 950 hp they offer on my 383.

You are right about that, i am still unsure of which carb i am getting. I am not purchasing anything right this moment i have most of the winter to decide, so i really appreciate all these new ideas. I have never heard of that place before, can you tell me a little on how much it helped you? Also, it appears they charge $699 to do the carburetor? How close to perfect was the one they built for you?

I have now purchased a Bigs carburetor from Jesse! He was a very stand up guy and gave me a really nice deal. I cant wait to get the carburetor from him and see what it can do! Now the next step is the converter. Only thing is, is ATI might be a little out of my price range... even though they were great on the customer service aspect of things as well.

Re: New fastest ET

give Justin a shout at Transmission Specialties...those guys treated me really well! my converter drove really well on the street, for what it was (4500 stall, no od) and only had like 3% slippage on the big end. be sure to mention your a TGO member as he used to do a discount for us

Yeah..i switched to a 750 becausr i had one it liked on the dyno. Fuel pump have up on 10.20 pass with the 650...and the qjet made the same exact power.

I do have an ex-stock eliminator guy so my carb and i have never had to adjust it...i had an 850 on the car once and it didnt gain anything either.

Trans specialties aint bad...i have never used them though. ATI is number 1 in my book.

Re: New fastest ET

i've used both Trans Specialties and ATI. they're both awesome units. ATI got really expensive all of a sudden though...

i like that Trans Specialties is a spragless setup...one less thing to fail

Im going with the stage 5 750 cfm because that is the carb he recommended for my combo. He also recommended i put a 1" supersucker carb spacer underneath it. It seems to have had some pretty decent reviews. I havnt read anywhere that it hurts performance.

i'm using a 2" super sucker with the 6.0. it's just a tuning aid. when the 5.3 goes in, i will try it with and without the spacer just to see what it likes.

Re: New fastest ET

it's a great thing to have on the shelf too...if this combo doesn't benefit, who's to say the next one won't? i think the 2" version i have is a little pricier...i've contemplated getting a 1" version too, just for the ability to fine tune a combo.

i made one 3/4" thick since i needed a spacer for the nitrous plate. was somewhat tricky since there wasnt much to work with.
