Any advantages to taller frt. tire?

I understand a taller tire will give you more rollout which I guess will give you more adjustability on where you stage. I see a lot of 3rd gen stockers using very tall tires especially footbraking.

I did so for ground clearance, but other benifits are - Slower reaction times due to roll out required to break the beams if shallow staging(if you are red lighting), Faster ET's and MPH due to more roll out and esentially shorter track as well - So you are moving faster before lights start and break end beam fraction faster if even measuable at that end.. But roll out will at start will make you slightly faster.

If you foot brake, the extra rollout will help slightly and should reduce the amount of red lights. Since I use a delay box, I use the taller tire strictly for ground clearance.

Many of the 3rd. gen stockers you see have 28" tires, the larger tire looks good on them. I re-measured my small radials and they are 25" tall.

Re: Any advantages to taller frt. tire?

25"-26" will look good if the car is lowered, but stock height can get away with taller ones to fill up the fender

I hope this displays for everyone. Not sure if the permissions are set for it.

I like the stance your car has. Could I get you to measure your frt. spoiler height and the height of your wheel well openings? What brand are your frt. tires?

Re: Any advantages to taller frt. tire?

My car is sitting on 4 jack stands right now. I think the front spoiler is normally about 5-6" off the ground. I scrape it going in and out of the trailer. Wheel well openings I have no idea. I know the right side is a little higher than the left because a front spring keeps rotating out of position.

Front tires are MT front runners. Part # 3009

Re: Any advantages to taller frt. tire?

AlkyIROC, is your front at stock height or lowered? I suspect that 28" will not clear on most cars that are more than about 1" lower than stock, but I've never tried it.

Re: Any advantages to taller frt. tire?

I use Moroso BBC trick springs and there's approximately 1700-1800 pounds on the nose which is about the weight of a street car with a V8 so I don't think it sits any higher or lower than a street car. Back end ride height is different because of how I have the 4-link set up.
