Front tire size and brand??

Considering going to a race frt. tire instead of the VW type radials I've run for years. The ones on there now measure 26" diameter. What looks, fits and works the best?

Any brand will work really. I'm running a 26x4.5 mickey thompson et front. I like them a lot, they drive great down the race track and are lite weight too. I bought them at a race from the mt trailer for under what summit sold them for. So far so good

Re: Front tire size and brand??

My front skinnies are close enough to be considered worn out so I bought a new set over the winter. MT 3009. 27.5/4.5-15. I think these tires have a mileage limit of less than 500 miles. I think they've been on my car for at least 6 years. There isn't much tread on them to start with and they're not designed for street use.

You have 165R15 that measure 26"? They're usually closer to 25". Your only real option for a front skinny other than the VW tires is to buy a drag front skinny. It's the only way you can get a skinny tire to fit on a 4" rim and have a tall tire.

I run the Hoosier 26x4.5 I use to run the M/T 25x4.5. I like the look of the taller tire.

Car is race only, no street at all. Was just wondering about a taller tire and more rollout. I have been footbraking it but will do some no-box this year.

Re: Front tire size and brand??

are you having issues with going red? if so, look at a taller tire. i wanted to go to a 27" tall tire for more ground clearance as my car is pretty low, but got a killer deal on the 26" tires so i stayed with them. i'm also not going red very often, so no big deal really.

Re: Front tire size and brand??

When I go red it's the nut behind the wheel that causes it, not the tires. I'm looking at lowering the frt. a little when I change my frt. springs to Moroso trick springs. Right now I'm 27 1/2" to the wheelwell, 6 1/4" to the subframe and 9" at the center of the frt. spoiler.

Re: Front tire size and brand??

With a delay box, it's hard for me to go red so tire height for rollout isn't the issue. I like the taller tire just for ground clearance.

Re: Front tire size and brand??

going from a 25 to a 26 didn't hurt my react at all on the pro tree. The Hoosiers seem to have less bulge in the sidewalls compared to my old M/T's. Maybe they were just that wore out lol.
