New to the board, and hello to everyone.. i finally got a 3rd gen project car 88 GTA.. I ran it two weeks ago at the local track with just an air foil and was very suprised. i was expecting high 14s-low 15s.. but to my suprise i ran a 14.62@93 mph.. Now i put a k&n cone filter in place of my old air box, 3 inch off road Y pipe and 3 inch dynomax full exhaust, with eibachs, which helped the launch a little, And i got a 14.24@96 mph(with 4-12 subs in the trunk and 2 giant amps) lol now im gonna advance the timing 8-10 degrees, and see if 13s are possible! then on to a 2800 stall. Give feedback on advancing the timing please or any tips! thanks

Nice one running down the track is a blast isn't it?

It looks like you got the power for a 13 second run now.

You may want to get some better Lower control arms, the stock one's are garbage by comparison to aftermarket. Even the cheap Lakewoods are far superior.

Are you talking about advancing the base timing that much or the full timing??

Thats a great time. Your car is in good shape. Where do you live at?

As for timing, I was running mine at 10* for almost a year. Put it back down to 6* and the car felt faster.

take all that sound equipment out and get some 3.42 gears out back and watch for that 13 second timeslip

Headers along with that converter you mentioned and your knockin on 13s. And as Doom86 said your gonna want to start looking into suspension next.

ive been around dragracing for years, mostly bikes but i see that its in my launch and that these cars have low and mid range like crazy! which leads me to believe a convertor would let me bring my R's up on the launch and get in the 13s.. nearly 97 mph is high 13s but my 60 foots are high 1.9s.. What are your guys 60s with similar bolt ons, or 13 sec 3rd gens

If you can put the power to the ground yea it should help.

Do you have headers? I assumed yes, sorry about that. If not you should for sure.

There's a lot of things you could do really you just need to find the bottle-neck and go from there.

Does it feel like you could drop the hammer at 2800 RPM and not blow the tires out? I know my bolt-on LG4 cannot so I'm doubting your 350 TPI can.

You are right though these cars have incredible low/mid range, even more so with the 350 TPI. Don't go mis-matching parts and ruining that. I only say that because it's common to do.

yeah i would rather not to do the convertor actually, i see more of a gain with the intake runners and timing advanced to hopefully raise the top end power to match that torque of the motor. but im 21 on low budget so im looking for the most costly quick street car. thats why i chose the gta

easy, it was a slug out of the hole, if you can improve 60'ft time it makes alot of difference in E.T, now my car is a bone stock 305 tbi, it went from 17.40 to 16.65
and went from 79.6mph to 85.3mph.......i'am also a 4000ft.

that's a hell of a gain with just a stall, i suspect a change in air as well....


however .5 with a good stall isn't too out of the ordinary

3.23 to 3.73 gained me half a second in the 1/4 with my bone stock 88 TPI 305 when it was an auto.

skip the 2800, and go to a 32-3400... EVERY car should have a 3000 stall... And dont mess with runners and that nonsense, go straight to the Holley Stealth Ram.. that and a set up Hedman Longtubes and you will be BOTTOM 13's all day long.

i agree with most of this statement. i will add the amendmant that every "normal" combo that one could put into a thirdgen setup with street/strip in mind will benefit from atleast a 3000rpm flash speed.

3200 stall FTMFW. Going from 2.73s to 3.42s was cool and all, but the stall was simply amazing.

last track day of the year i decided to throw a dry 50 shot on it an got a 13.45@103 out of it.. now the motors out and the 406 hsr is done and soon to be in it.. wish me luck (11.90s) btw i went with 2800-3200 stall
