Is that an OEM length (with a transmission crossmember mount) or a short version with a trans tunnel mount?

Re: Post Your 60ft with Suspension Setup

The last time I replied to the thread I said I normally get low 1.30s and sometimes 1.29. My best ever has been 1.27 and I think I tripped the 60 foot lights with the back tires when I did that

Re: Post Your 60ft with Suspension Setup

Seeing as I'm in the market for new "slicks" I'm curious as to how well the MT SS drag radial does. This is the fully treaded version.
From all accounts, or at least the accounts in this thread, is that the radials do well. Not specified though is the type of drag radial used.
Something else I've been made aware of is that the chassis tuning of the old days, that is those days before the radials hit the track, is quite different from what these news tires require. Size for size it seems the radial just doesn't have the same traction as a bias ply slick. Suspension tuning needs to create separation so as to drive the radial into the track surface. The 4-link rear ends had the tunability, combined with a double adjustable shock to get the job done. Back in the day we just fit the biggest slick possible and dealt with it.
The question here is who's running these SS radial DOT tires and what suspension components are involved? And of course what was your 60' time?

Re: Post Your 60ft with Suspension Setup

Never tried radials but everything you know about slicks is different. Radials have a very stiff sidewall. They do better with standard tire pressures generally in the 24-35 psi range as going low with pressure causes the center of the tread to lift off the pavement. With the higher tire pressures, they have better rolling resistance compared to slicks so they can be faster. I know there's a few regional cars around here running radials in fast classes. I remember a local Mustang that used to race in extreme drag radial class. Can easily blow through a set of radials in less than 10 passes by hammering out the sidewalls. This is also a car that can run mid 7 seconds in the 1/4 mile.

I love my big slicks. 32" tall and 16" wide. Even on a track with minimal prep I can usually still get some sort of traction while cars with narrow tires spin. I've also hooked up too well in Edmonton when traction was fantastic and got all 4 wheels off the ground.

As for drag radials, even ones with minimal tread to get a DOT rating, you have to understand that these tires are not designed for street use. The rubber is too soft. They have a life expectancy of an oil change if used on the street.

Re: Post Your 60ft with Suspension Setup

skinny, I know you are well aware already, but for those who don't follow my build thread and just want to see what you and I are inquiring about..... my info is just a few posts above.
--- I am VERY curious to hear from others who have run the DOT treaded MT ET Street SS tire (this one: https://www.jegs.com/i/Mickey-Thomps.../3460/10002/-1 ) and how capable is it. even non-thirdgen cars that run this tire, what can it do? can it hook and deliver a mid-low 1.5 sixty foot? probably..... how about a 1.4x ??
of course suspension and weight all are a factor, but truly how capable are these tires. I have run them most of this year, but my car is not that fast. I intend to get it a lot faster, but they deliver 1.64-1.66 repeatedly when I have them at 19psi. I know these have a better reputation than those in their same DOT "category" which would be the M&H racemasters and the Nitto Drag radials, but what is their limit?

Re: Post Your 60ft with Suspension Setup

Figured I would post my setup here hoping it helps someone. I posted about 10 years ago when it was a street/strip car. Now a complete strip car.

Racecraft K-member, A-arms and front coil over conversion
Afco Big Gun struts, Racecraft chain limiters
Spohn LCA with spherical rod ends, Spohn torque arm, spohn LCA relocation brackets
Afco Big Gun rear shocks, small diameter rear springs in stock location
Custom fabbed anti-roll bar.
29x10 Hoosier slicks at 15psi

Here is launch of the last pass I took in November. Trans-brake set at 3500 (should be closer to 5000) and short shifted at 6000 (instead of 8200) to keep the nose down just in case. Still lot of tuning to do with the shock settings, front end travel and launch RPM. 60' was 1.26

Re: Post Your 60ft with Suspension Setup

It's been awhile since I've done a update. Have a new pb 60 foot time. I'm not sure If it will get much better then this for a 9.90 1/4 mile car unless the air is perfect.

1.27 60 foot.

viking da shocks in back, lakewood 90/10 struts up front. Front travel limiters set to 2 inches total. Front is all stock type, k member etc. Rear has a anti roll bar, lca is set to lowest of 4 holes on strange s60 rear end. Rear is all tubular adjustable stuff, stock type. Shorty tq arm to frame mount. Car is 3525lbs race weight. 540bbc N/A pump gas with th350/t brake(set at 3800rpm) 4.10 Rear gear on a 28x9 pbr@19psig.
