I never met my 2010 goal but I'm getting closer.
It was a short, cold, wet season but I still managed to set a new personal best 3 times dropping from 9.34 to 9.214. I had 2 perfect lights on the same day but neither were during eliminations rounds and I won an event so it wasn't a total loss this season.

Keep my 'IronMan' streak alive. I was one of only three drivers in '09 to earn points in each race. Started 41 races since I started in 2008 (3-4 races per race weekend).
So far I've had a few 5th place finishes and only one 4th place (avg ~10 cars). My other goal for 2010 is to get on that podium this year.
Last goal is to beat my buddy of mine (Burro here on TGO), who started racing last year, in season points

Unfortuanately, I had my first at fault contact this year too, last race of the season to be exact.

Re: What are your goals for the 2010 racing season? and your failures...
Well last spring I knocked the bearings out of the 406sbc. That combo went good for what it was. I got mid 9's at 142 with a 175 shotat 3300lbs. The cam wouldn't let me add anymore spray. The car ran same time with .063 jet as a .102. Since I had to pull the engine out I had the engine bay painted and firewall smoothed. A buddy did that for me. I also had the axel shortened one inch for a mini tub job. I spent many hours researching 700-850hp sbc's and realized one they were expensive and two that they run on the edge with that power level. So I found a fresh 555 BBC and decided that it makes more power and was cheaper. So after fitting the car with a front and mid-plate, I ordered up some Ed Quay headers 2 1/4 stepped to 2 3/8's.
The rear of the car needed attention and is in the process of getting 40 spline axels with a pro geared aluminum center section. I sold the th-400 and am getting a sfi cased Powerglide and purchased a Neal Chance bolt together converter.
The car is at home and is in the assembly process. My ETA should be two months to get the car going. I would expect 9.50's on motor and sub 8's on a 300 shot. I have both a plate and a pro-fogger on the engine. The car should scale in at roughly 3400 with me in it. I have both radials and Et Streets for the car and it will be run through the exhaust.
EDIT: also added a 6 inch cowl and removed the stripes.

think i might meet this goal since the first and last passes for 2010 I'll make on this all new combo will be next saturday.
Keeping my fingers crossed that means no big wrenching projects all winter.
Even get to try out the 1badrz28 torque converter finally that I bought off him last winter I think

Well I did meet my bigest goal the first weekend out. Ran a 10.98 @ 119.74 (which is also highest mph it's run with the 305) in G/SA. Plans for next year are still up in the air right now.

I managed to accomplish none of the above. I had hoped to make the last test and tune of the season but it's still a day or two from being driveable.

Met my ET goal for the year easily and sold the 383. I only made about 20 passes this year so I'm sure i could have gotten more out of it too. I have the LS swap started and will hopefully have it completed by spring.

Re: What are your goals for the 2010 racing season? and your failures...
Only got out once this year and couldnt even get back into the 9's with new converter. 10.08 and 10.17 spinning at 140mph traps... car had overheating problems all year and being in Texas with the car in PA, i couldnt get time to work on it. Also did C5 brake swap and had problems with the brakes. Couldnt stop well, but I think its due to weak booster and needs adjustable proportioning valve. Now its staying cool but has some oil leaks under boost that I cant figure out. I got to do some inspections. Oh well.

Had a decent year, but tragedy within our racin' family took all the fun away.. The wife of my very good racing buddy Roger was killed in a non-racing accident.... Took all the fun out of the season, but at the same time got us all fired up to have a big season next year.....

Re: What are your goals for the 2010 racing season? and your failures...
Does it mean anything if I did the exact opposite of all of the above? Brand new motor lasted through some driveway tnt and 4 passes before tossing a couple rods so the unusable parts list was: crank, rods, pistons, cam, and oil pan. That ended up putting me out for about 2.5 months as well as I started the season late from not having stuff done in the spring. I didn't make it into the 9's at all, let alone 9.0's, and didn't get into the field at Pinks All Out, although I got very close. The light at the end of the tunnel though is that I got it to pull 147mph for my last few passes showing power enough to run an 8.90 e.t. at only 15psi, but I still need to work on faster spooling and traction to get the e.t. to happen.

Back in January, I said my goals were to get the LS1/T56 out to the track, and not embarrass myself as defending champ.
Well, I got the LS1/T56 running, made some test & tune passes (8), then in the first time trial of the first "stick shift" class race, I broke the driveshaft (stock 4th gen aluminum). Got a 3" DOM shaft fabricated, and discovered the beefed-up 10-bolt gears were toast. So, ordered a 9" for it (which required re-tubing the driveshaft), but retained the LCA ladderbar conversion set-up - it was hitting the rear end so hard, the rear tires were literally coming off the track at the hit. So, I ordered a BMR Trak Pak and installed it. Worked fine for 14 passes, on the 15th, the adjustment link on the Trak Pak broke. Turns out the mount system used by this 9" supplier allowed side-to-side movement at the TA attach point, which fatigued the adjustment link until it finally broke. In the process, the TA poked a hole in the floorpan, the new driveshaft was wiped out, the shock mount eyes were almost broken off the shocks - so I put that car in the barn. That was mid-July.
In the '57, the season started out fairly well. I won a race in a class I'd never done that before, then was runner-up next race. 3rd race (that wasn't rained out), when warm the 396 was making not-good noises and oil pressure was in the tank. Not making the call for the 2nd round was one of the hardest decisions I've ever made racing. Turned out to be a spun #8 rod bearing. That was late June. I tried running the LS1/T56 in all classes (and won a few rounds) until it broke.
While trying to get the other Camaro put together with an LS1/4L60E, I ran my '95 diesel truck, borrowed my son's S10, borrowed a '69 Camaro (that was cool), and managed to hang on to win a season championship in the class that I won that first race. In the class I was defending season champ, I fell one round short of making the stage (7th place) at the awards banquet. In two classes in which I finished 2nd last year, I finished 5th this year. In the class in which I finished 3rd last year, I was an also-ran. In the class I finished 6th last year, I basically quit trying after the '57 went down.
At the Division 5 ET finals, I pretty much embarrassed myself just like I did last year - in the first round gave up the strip when I didn't have to back off.
So, compared to last year, it might look like a "down" year. Certainly I busted enough stuff. But, I still have a season championship, and two other stage appearances at the awards banquet - a lot of racers are waiting for their first trip to the stage. So, all in all, I can't complain.

Well since I made no real goals I achieved every one of them.
Too many other things happened this year (bad year farming too) I do have 2 fresh tractors for next year. (maybe tractor drags?)

well, my season isn't quite over yet. blew my "realistic" goal of 11.3 out of the water 2nd trip out when the car went some 11.2x's. blew it away again when i went 10.9x's last weekend, and i have one more outing for the car this year where i hope to obtain the "lofty" goal of 10.8x that i put on the table back in january!!

First goal is to get the car out more than once this year. Would like to chase for points.
Performance wise is some mid 11's, hopefully with a little more gear, intake and some tuning time I can get there. If not, a new set of heads will be on the way.
With any luck, when I reread this in 11 months I can say that I accomplished what I want for the year.

Performance wise, picked up and ran low 12's, found out I was having some valve spring issues, which is of little consolation after finding chunks when I took the rear end cover off last week. So instead of my plan to up the HP, it looks like I will be spending the coin on the rear end.

Re: What are your goals for the 2010 racing season? and your failures...
My goal is and has been to put together an 11sec pump gas autocrossing, roadcoursing drag car. Last year I missed my goal of an 11sec timeslip and went from a previous best of 12.6 to a 12.3 with traction problems. (posi clutchs went south) My goal will again be for a wheels up 11 sec multi purpose street legal pump gas car that will be scary fast on an autocross track.
Kicked *** on the drag part of my goals. Car went consistent 11.79's with the front end up about 8"!!! Best of 1.54 60ft. Ive been very happy with acheiving this with no bottle, 93 octane, and a stock short block. Put plenty of street miles on the car this summer as well. The car has proven to be very dependable. There was no time to ever Autocross it this year though. That will be a very high priority for next spring!!

I failed big time. The car went a best of around 13.4@106. My 60 fts were terrible because I still have the stock stall. And I was leaning out bad up top. I added fuel up top, but never got it back to the track. I'm done with the L98. I'm building a engine this winter. It will be a 383 or larger.

Re: What are your goals for the 2010 racing season? and your failures...
well, i managed to make it happen this year! it's been expensive, but i did it!
-started out a little late this year. didn't get the 370 together till mid march. took it down to Jacksonville to EFI alchemy to have it tuned. 5hour ride one way. it put down a measily 367whp/337wtq. i was uber dissappointed. we took it out the next day to do some shift point tuning. the after 7 back to back pulls on the street the trans started slipping into 3rd at WOT. i loaded it up and brought it home. i was pretty bummed.
-drove the car for about 2 weeks and it developed a noise. i traced it down to a cracked flexplate. i replaced it with a TCI sfi unit. we took the car out to make a quick field test and came home broken. fried the bands in the 4l60e. i noticed a puddle of oil on the shop floor after it had cooled down for a little bit. cracked oil pan...dropped the oil pan to fix the crack, only to find all kinds of bearing material.
-took shortblock to proline to have it fixed. i didn't have the time to fix it, and with as much as we had invested in it this year, my wife OK'd the expensive refresh.
-converted it from efi to carb cause i was so disgusted with the numbers from earlier in the year
-put powerglide in from dad's car
put it all back together, ran an 11.7 soft off the hit and short shifting it. chizled it down for a while to an 11.31, then broke the planetary set in the glide.
-i got together with Fast383 and Shagwell this summer and setup a deal for a th400 and a good quality converter. i knew the 'glide was the wrong choice, i just wanted to go racing so badly we put it in.
-got the converter/th400 in the car in late september. went back out and smashed out some 11.2's but was having carb issues.
-got the carb issues figured out, and finally had some decent air, and managed to click off my 10.85 @ 125 last weekend....which just happened to be the last weekend out for the year.
i gotta few things to cover over this winter. one is to get a real torque arm...i'm looking at the Burkhart piece really hard. the other is a new hood...and if i can swing it, a new carb.

How did you break the planetary in a glide only running low 11's? My home built 1.76 glide is still surviving transbrake launches and running low 9's. Sure it could let go at any time but for some reason it's still surviving. It's amazing at how well a glide can survive on the dragstrip.

it had 19 years and thousands of passes on the build. shoot, it still has a 'glide input shaft because it was built before the turbo input shaft was an economical upgrade. i'm also running at nearly 3500lbs.

Re: What are your goals for the 2010 racing season? and your failures...
Goal wise I am happy, my goal was to go 10.6s on motor in my firebird with
T56 trans and hit 9.70s on spray on pump gas.
I was able to hit my N/A goal very early in year, but traction kept me from my 9.7s, I did get 9.8 at end of year after tire swap and sure with more rpm on launch I could get the 9.7s.. Also sure with the new found traction I could hit 10.5 on motor if not a high 10.40 but my failure all year and obsession with 9s kept me from traying anymore.
For winter plan on swapping out intake, swapping for a SHP block that is not cracked and maybe's would be faceplate trans andget kooks 1.875 headers in favor of my 1.75s that are probably hurting my combo. With those I would look for 10.3s n/a on pump gas and 6 speed.

All the chassis work is outsourced. SBC with a single T6 turbo. Yes stock style suspension. The Plan was to run the 275 drag radial Class.

Failure was that the car never left the garage. Oh well I guess there is always next season

Re: What are your goals for the 2010 racing season? and your failures...
Nice deal. My 25.5 will be starting this Sunday. After the "faulty piston", I shipped the heads off to get a proper port job and the engine will also be getting a new intake manifold to help out the cylinder head work. A stock Dart is about the worst intake out there. Hopefully, 60-75 more hp will be made with this work being done.

Are you also going to get the intake manifold port matched??

The heads are at Speier Racing in Hay's KS and hopefully I get them back in Feb. I should have the short block assembled this weekend. I just filed 1,3,5,7 rings last night. What a PITA.
Thanks for the compliment. I am putting the 25.5 just because I don't want to be called for it at the track. My plan is for 8.30's which to me is fast enough.

25.5 is like what, a 12pt with a funny car cage and a few extra bars...good to 7.50, right? can a 25.5 be mild steel?
i know what you mean by 8.3's being fast enough. right now, i'd be happy with some 10.2x's, which i don't think are too far off with some suspenion upgrades and a good carb. once i'm out of school, i think an 8.5 car would be great, cause then i could easily get away with a 10pt cage.
