My budget Build
Hi everybody, just wanted to share my combo with all of you.
A couple of years ago I set out to build a drag car only using factory engine parts and as close to stock as possible. Here it is....
The car is an 89 Formula that I bought as a rolling chassis with the original rear end in it. (2:73, no posi) It has a Th350 trans, 12 pt. cage, 10" slicks, and plastic fuel cell.
The powerplant:
95' 5.7L Cast iron head LT1 from Caprice converted to carb. (750 holley)
Stock pistons and rods
Stock valves and untouched ports
Stock rocker arms
Stock push rods
****Factory 69' Z28 solid lifter cam.****
After market parts:
Jegs 3000 stall converter
Edelbrock tes headers (no y pipe)
Edelbrock rpm nitrous plate kit (150 shot)
CSR electric water pump
Crane hi 6
Jegs wires and no name coil.
Car ran 11.10 letting off the throttle about 100' from the finish line due to front end vibration. Should be easy 10.9
Less than $5000 I spent on whole project.

Pretty impressive for the parts. Do you have an idea of how heavy the car is?

Re: My budget Build
I'm going to the track this weekend, I put new tires in front so I'll make full pass and post the slips and pics. I think the reason it runs such a good time is because of this gear and no posi. Too much gear and the tires break loose, and posi makes it fish tale. right now it takes off just enough where there is no wheel spin and goes straight. with the 2:73 I can almost finish the 1/4 in 2nd gear. I cross the finish line in 3rd at only 4500 rpm. I'm going to try a rev kit and better chain shift at 7000 and do it in 2 gears. Something different.
