ET for Cheap with the LG4!

My daughter just tried out the birthday present I gave her last month for her '86 LG4....... a little "squeeze".
Phenomenal results: went from a best NA run of 15.5 @ 87 mph last year to a new best on the 75 pills of 13.65 @ 99.6, 1.89 60', nothing else changed! With no heat on the bottle and temp in the 40's, I doubt we can even claim an honest 75 hp with the .042 jet.
The car has 3.73 gears with a Torsen posi, 26" slicks, junkyard TPI exhaust system, and that's it.
So I guess what you should take away from this is: Don't even waste your time messing with a perfectly good 305 motor. Just a touch of spray will be more time & cost effective than anything you could possibly do inside the motor. From the day we brought that car home, I had told her the ONLY hp mod it would get from me anytime in the near future would be a simple little plate system. With all my other stuff and work, I just don't have the time to do it any other way. I have a grand total of $255 in the nitrous system.

Re: ET for Cheap with the LG4!

i went from 13.0s in my 305 to 11.60s on a 150 shot. So those other "little" bolt ons definitely help. Of course that tpi on top will be one of the bigger restrictions, luckily a 305 doesn't move as much air so you can rev it higher than a 350. Toss a full exhaust and a cam into it and it should drop some ET nicely. Perhaps a 2200 S10 stall that is stock out of a parts catalog. 1998 S10 4.3L is what you're looking for. Still will retain lockup, etc but add another 700rpm or so to the launch.

Re: ET for Cheap with the LG4!

Heheh.....funny you should mention the S-10 converter! I have one lying right here in the garage. It will be a while before that goes into it though. Tranny is very solid, had just been rebuilt before I bought the car, so I have no excuse to swap converters at this time. If I had time to burn, I would, but..........
xpndbl3, you're obviously way up the mod curve compared to what this one is going to get. It would be easier for me to drop a Vortec 350 into it that's sitting here in the garage than to mess with head & cam work. VERY nice job with that 305, though!
