Battery cut off switch

I need to know if I need to install a cut off switch because my battery is mounted in the rear hatch area and I heard that I need one if I am going to race my car at a track?

Re: Battery cut off switch

Any vehicle with the battery not in the OEM location must have a master switch.

Rules for the master switch

Must be easily accessible from the rear
Must be installed in the positive battery cable
Must kill the engine and all electrics in the car when turned off
May not be keyed or made of plastic
Off must be clearly marked
If installed as a push/pull, push is off

As for your battery in the rear.

Any battery in the driver's compartment must be in an approved, sealed battery box or mounted behind a rear metal firewall. Simply putting the battery behind the plastic inner panels such as in the spare tire compartment is not approved.

Re: Battery cut off switch

Depends of you want it mounted on the inside with a removable rod for street use or mounted on the outside where it can be accessed and turned off at any time.

Not sure on Firebirds but Camaros are commonly mounted like in the picture above.

Re: Battery cut off switch

On my Camaro I made an aluminumbracket to hang under bumper, on my
T/A I put it through bottom of liscense plate. If you have one of those liscense plate plastic things that go around, it will cover hole if removed.
Not a fan of drilling holes that you can see in the body.
