New times. Much better. TimeSlip inside.

After getting my timing all straight I think I'm ready to go to the track But first I must fix a broken spring. K-Motion K-700's SUCK!!!
Well any way I put in an L98 spring I had laying around and headed to the track. I'm 4126.

Getting solid 13 sec timeslips now. And your 60' is improving.

I hope you didn't buy K-700's based on one of my posts about
prepping Vortec heads.
I have been having a few break my self now.
I'm going to change the whole set now, before it results in a dropped valve. I have a good set of speed pro Z28 springs
V739R that i'm going to pop in.

I bought some new Mickey T Sportsman Pros and broke
'em in at the track tonight. Not bad.

I smoked the trans tonight. Fluid is pissing out
the main seal. I just barely made the drive home from the track.
A well that trans was an old one and don't owe me nothing.
Got another 700r4 with a 2800stall converter to go in
with my new 406 real soon.

I was going to check some of my old posts to see who suggested those springs. If it was you, you owe me some new springs. JK
Before I can go back to the track I have to get a helmet and I have to have a metal tube for my oil psi gauge. I've been there many times and none of the techs ever said anything about the plastic hose. I know that ain't gonna be fun puttin in that small *** metal tubing. Just hope I don't kink it.

I searched some old posts. It was you who suggested those springs. Then I was suggesting them. :lala: But no one chimed in at all and said they were bad till now. Oh well. Live and learn. Here is the link to it.

Yup guess it was me that suggested those POS Kmotions.
Looked like a good deal Low price, drop right on, right spring pressure. Mine worked fine for a year, but now they are snapping
every time ya turn around.
Pulled the valve covers off this morning and found another
busted one. Only seems to snap the exhaust ones.

Don't like to give out bad advice. Sorry about that.

Here is list of some of the other brand stock dia replacement
springs you can shop for.

GM pn#3927142, Isky #205D or 235D, Crane,99848,99846
Comp cams#981, Speedpro#V739R These are all good for .490"
list when installed @1.70" installed height. You can reuse the stock vortec retainer and keeper. They are light weight and strong. All of the cam companies have online tech help
and are more than happy to help you select the right springs for your application.

Even though the springs can take that much lift doesn't mean the heads can. There's a possibility that the spring retainer is hitting the top of the valve stem. I doubt that would break springs but it's something else to check.

I took the heads to the machine shop and had them grind the guides down. Im good to .500 lift he said. It didn't look like it was hitting when I took the spring off. So I'm good there. Thanks F-Bird for the part #'s. I'm gonna order some new springs on payday. I now have a killer exhaust leak I have to fix now and no days off this week to do anything. So next week will be Camaro week

I also had my heads' guides machined shorter for high lift.
My retainer to seal clearance is .720" with a stock chev retainer,
and .787" with a stock vortec retainer.

The last time I changed one (3rd in 3 weeks) I had to change a damaged rocker stud (my goof up). Got a good used rocker stud from a local engine builder on a friday night. He said those K-700's snap by just looking at them.
Said he had to replace a bunch of sets.

K-motion k-700's are just no good.

I wish my lift was a bit higher. Would like to try out some 1.6 rockers just to see what it would be like. The spring I had that broke was on the exhaust to. I wonder why they break on the exhaust side. That's weird that all yours that broke were on the exhaust side too. Hmmmm. So far I haven't heard of anyone sucking a valve yet. Good thing they have dampers in them.

I'm looking into putting my vortecs under the knife this winter. I have the tool to cut the spring pockets and valve guide boss. What springs would you recomend for about .510 lift and 260-270 durdation on both sides. I'm also going to do some porting after I buy a grinder. I'm thinking about an electric one, cause I only have a 5 horse compressor. On these springs I'm looking for 100% (or as close as I can get) reliability. I'm also going to press out the studs and replace them with screw in 3/8s most likely. I might go to 7/16s. I'm going to keep the stamped stell self aligning rockers for right now. I'd also like to keep the stock retainers if that's at all possible. If not, it won't break my heart.

Bigger bigger bigger. Always go bigger. Well at least with spring diameter. But not spring pressure. Although that can be fun too.
