Thirdgen Nationals 2006 : The Suggestion Box
Any suggestions on what could be improved for next time around?
The first thing that comes to mind is a prepay system. The number of no-shows was simply staggering, especially considering I got stuck with the bill for the food/shirts/supplies/etc for everyone that did not bother to show up. (A month before my wedding)

I think a pay before you go would be a good idea. You could get a paypal thing and have their money up front. When people don't have an investment they will better deal you in a minute. I was mad that my son's friends cancelled at the last minute, and I didn't have any money in it. We were going to be a five camaro crew that became just two.
On a happier note, I had a good time and it was very nice to put faces to screen names. I also want to thank all for voting for my car. I got quite a kick out of taking first place. My son came away with some good ideas for his car.
ES87iroc, I know it didn't turn out the way you planned. I do want you to know, I am greatful and you guys were worth the drive
Thanks, Tom Snyder

pay as you go is the only way. If people don't have money on the line, they're less likely to come thru, as you've noticed.
Besides, one guy shouldn't have to foot most of the bill. Looks like I won't have a 3rd Gen come next week, but if I'm still in MD, I'd be happy to show up in my 4th Gen.

Erik, how about a someting similiar to what MDLG did; for people who prepayed, they would get to pay a slightly lower fee, than the people that payed when they showed up?
Ideally, all people interested in going would prepay to get that lower rate, and 'force' them to come as a result.

I also agree with the pay before you go... I had no problem with it when we did it back in '03. BTW I had a great time this weekend also, just wish more people showed up sat and sun

Es87iroc:
I know and feel your pain.
We have the same thing ocuring out here for events.
Denny has Thirdgen Fest every year in Crete and people have caused it to become prepay as well
My own board here, NW IN/South Chicago has rented out Rt 41 for an annual event every year(well last 2 and 06 will be 3) and we have to prepay simply for the fact that someone has to pay the $$$ regardless the day of the rental, plus the $300 deposit to hold the rental.
Even in different parts of the country I salute u, and myself too, and anyone else who does, for putting our money where our mouths are and having the pair to step up and organize something.
Heres one I need to know lol
Do people stand around the grill 20 deep and expect food to materialize at events out your way too?
Did any of them bother to actually lift a finger and help?
Do they take the last pop or water and put no more in the barrels of ice or coolers even though it is stacked right next to it?
Man people wake up, people that help out and or put on these shows are usually carrying a large part of the tab on their won shoulders. Try helping out once in awhile or being curteous about responding at the least.
Thats most of my rant for now.
I would guess the root of the problem is, with millions of cars out there, how do we get more to show?
What is the issue, is it family, dollars, time?
They only own a hashed out thirdgen and dont want to be seen?
Why dont people show some courtesy and respect and help out their fellows who gave them the oppurtunity for the get together in the first place?
Its not hard to help out or cook for 30 min, or help clean up some garage is it?
I have seen all this occur at the track rentals and at Thirdgen Fest...................
later

3.8: THANKS! Alot of sad realities in there. Everyone that came out to the nationals was very helpful though, great group!
Dude:
What makes it not the nationals? Yes, the track day was done during a tnt day. No one wanted to pony up any dough to rent the track out. I took enough of a beating on the nationals show day as it was.
If you were familiar with the area you would know that renting the track was not needed on a Saturday, it was a GHOST TOWN. They closed at 4pm as there was no one racing anymore. You could hot lap pretty much all day. I don't know what else folks could want.
As far as advertising, I don't know what else I could have done. I had it in my sig and post regularly, as well as it has it's own forms. I sent out about 140 pm's two weeks out as a reminder and Mark sent emails to the folks that came out in '03.
The event itself went off without a single hitch, it worked out much better than I had expected. The only stick point was the staggering number of no-shows.
As far as making things clear, there are several posts with everything spelled out in plain english. I can't imagine a way that could have been easier to understand.
I suppose no matter how much time/effort/money I put into this not everyone was going to be happy. I had people whining about the location/time/date and one even whine about the date not being set in enough time for them to get off work. It was set FOUR stinking months in advance. This event proved to be much more difficult and time/$ intensive than I had originally signed up for, but I wanted to make sure that it was a success and everyone had a great time. It would seem that was the case.

that may be the case, but i think you're alienating everyone by calling it that...
think about this, most of the guys on this board, arnt racers, they're street guys, or show guys.... so they see 'nationals' they already dont look into that much.
the race guys, if they find out its not a full 'nationals' race, why come?
its more of a gathering thing.... i thinjk it'll help to get that across better.. i donno.. just trying to help.. lol.
