Need work? DONT GO HERE!
Three weeks ago I dropped my car off at MODERN MUSCLE in Oswego,IL to get my car tuned. Simple Cam tune is what we agreed to do. After weeks of "problems" the car had (so they say) I got the car back with a blown headgasket and a nice bill of $821 (thats not the repair for the gasket). They said they did several runs during that time and I looked at the date of the dynos they ran, they were on 8/16/11. I dropped the car off last months of July and they ran only 5 runs and said it was done. The power it made? Well, the first run they claimed have done on the car was 226hp and 237TQ. Last run 230hp and 241tq. So your asking what was done to the car right?
Comp 503 Cam
Stealth Ram Intake
1:6 Roller Rockers
Aluminum 90cc heads
30lbs injectors
new fuel lines and pump
Cap and rotor with 8.5mm wires.
THESE GUYS SUCKS AND LIE TO YOUR FACE!

Re: Need work? DONT GO HERE!
Your car should be making far more than that. But It sounds like something is wrong with your car, and not with the tune. Even untuned it should make more than 230 if those heads aren't junk.
90cc heads? Do you mean 190cc heads?
As for Dyno Tuning, most people don't do more than 3 runs when tuning with a WB O2 on a dyno.
If you are not happy, take your run files with WB O2 readings and contact Ion from MadZ28.com. He did tune thirdgens last time I checked, but that was a while ago.

Did it blow the head gasket on the dyno or did they not tell you about it? What is the breakdown for the 823?

Re: Need work? DONT GO HERE!
Brought car for dyno and look for oil leaks.
What I originally brought car in for-
1 hours of labor for oil leak (agreed to do) $110
Tune for max HP (Agreed to do) $475
Outcome
3 hours of labor (Not agreed for)
"Fixed" vaccum leaks, coolant leaks (didnt talk about this)
$575 job turned into $820 dollars and I have a blown headgasket that was not an issue when I brought the car there.
Cylinder number 1 exhaust rocker is way to loose to the point where it has no contact with pushrod. Was not like that when arrived.
I want to file a small claim against them but I need to have the car inspected before I do so.
Oil now has coolant in it and I fear bearings and crankshaft could be ****ed.
They said motor foul 3 spark plugs but they appear just to be fine, just white for them being lean.
All in all, I think MODERN MUSCLE ****ed up my car because they waitied to long to do anything and rushed it.

If your car had vacuum leaks, coolant leaks, and oil leaks it should absolutely not have been on the dyno in the first place. I don't think we have the full story here. You wouldn't pass a proper tech at a drag strip with those issues, and you shouldn't be allowed on a dyno either.
Who did the repair work for the head gasket?

Re: Need work? DONT GO HERE!
So if they didn't fix the headgasket, how did the rocker arm nut get loose? If they weren't under valve covers then the only reason it would be loose is either whomever did the headwork didn't tighten it down, or the rocker nuts nylon ring is worn and it should have been replaced. Modern Muscle would not take your valve cover off, to fix a vacuum leak. There is no reason too. So if they didn't take the valve cover off, then they certainly didn't loosen the rocker arm nut.
Screw finding another shop. Pick-up a Haynes manual and do it yourself, save the Money. Head gaskets are somewhat time consuming but so very easy to do. You could do this for under $100 easy.
If you don't have a garage, find a friend who does. Beg/Borrow the tools if you have to. I didn't know jack squat when I bought my car, but if I didn't work on it myself I wouldn't know nearly as much as I know now. A head gasket is easy as pie.

Re: Need work? DONT GO HERE!
Yeah, if they did not work under the valve covers...maybe the rocker and head gasket issue are a result of the dyno runs...which is not their problem.I would assume they wanted to be sure about all systems(vacuum leaks) before throwing it on the dyno. Sucks but stuff breaking on the dyno is usually not the shops fault...things break..unless of course they did something wrong running the car on the rollers(mis-shift, over rev, whatever) I hope it works out for you though.

You fixed the headgasket already or do you mean they were newer? Stuff still breaks man..Did you ask Modern Muscle why they took the valve cover off?

Re: Need work? DONT GO HERE!
I replaced it once because I had a lot of bad feedback for MLS gaskets for my type of build. I didnt ask I was just so caught up with what happened to my car I just wanted it back.

First pull the a/f ratio was very rich, second picture the a/f ratio looks great to me. The motor has issues somewhere, if you'd like to have a real shop rebuild the motor I recommend A-team speed shop in tinley park, IL 708-633-1320 Rob will take care of you.
