How you have tuned car after rebuild?

I rebuilt the top of the motor and replaced the old intake with the stealth ram, camshaft with a comp 503 and cast iron heads with aluminum patriot heads with 1:6 rockers. Now the car runs like any untuned car does and was wondering how you guys made it run good.

Re: How you have tuned car after rebuild?

straightline performance in new lenox I think can still make chips for people. Best bet would be to call them and ask, full dyno tune is probably $500.

Don't know anyone local at all who does these ancient computers anymore besides them. Everyone swaps to aftermarket EFI if they really want to dial in a tune. It's like trying to connect to the internet with a 14.4 modem compared to cable internet now.

Do you think getting it tuned by this guy is best or get the hardware and do it myself is best?

Re: How you have tuned car after rebuild?

no clue, i'm a carb guy....it's much easier to make power with a carb

Call him and feel him out, or drive out there and talk with him and see what you think. Personally it's a dead computer system and I would have swapped to something newer or carb. Maybe the guys in the tuning board can help, I have never stepped foot in that section.

WIDEBAND 02...It is a must for any real tuning....my advice would be to pay the 500 for the tune.

2nded. Tuning yourself? Wideband makes it faster and more accurate.

If not, find a GOOD shop and pay the $$$ for a tune. Make sure they are doing street AND dyno tuning. WOT tuning is much quicker than part throttle tuning.

Just noticed you are near Modern Muscle. The last open house I was at they had a thirdgen there. I think they can take care of you there.

Leave the tunning for the tuners. If it was easy everyone would tune there own car

then you may as well get the matching ecu....j/k.... Seriously though a wideband is a must,,,, I was tuning my car off a narrowband and once I got the w/b bung installed it showed me how inconsistant a narrowband really is...... good luck with the project and keep us updated
