your opinion on my rims
Do you guys think that stock discs look too small for my 18" rims? I personally don't like the look, but my uncle keeps telling me that unless you look directly at the wheel (like the third pic), the brakes don't look too small. (sorta like the second pic).
I see tons of little import tuners around with huge rims and tiny brakes and it just looks aweful. I've got a C5 brake kit for the front, waiting to put on my car, so I was thinking I'd just wait until I got a C5 rear setup before I put these rims on.
My problem is, the tires on my stock rims are shot and I already have tires for my 18" rims, just not mounted. Would you guys just put these rims on, or wait until you had big brakes all around? Should I buy new/used tires for my stock rims?
I would think if I was to clean up the brakes and paint them a flat or satin black, that not too much attention would be drawn to the brakes, and people would notice the rims instead.
I'd like to eventually have a complete C5 Z06 brake setup since the rims show all of the brakes, but should I just put these rims on in the meanwhile?
While I would love to get a rear C5 brake setup before spring, I'll more than likely be spending my money to get some body work done in hopes of getting my car on the road this coming year.
Am I being too picky about what goes on my car? I see lot of SUVs and cars with HUGE rims and tiny brakes. Am I the only one who thinks it looks stupid? Suggestions as to what you'd do?

Re: your opinion on my rims
I think it looks stupid too. I believe anytime you upgrade your wheels you should do the brakes as well. Do these people know if they leave those 20" wheels on stock brakes that it will take more road to stop? Anyway, I would probably get that brake upgrade before those wheels go on. Just my Other people will chime in as well but hope this guides you in the right directon.

Re: your opinion on my rims
is BLING your thing ? i feel good function & performance are more important . if bling is what you want the sky is the limit . if you want both , continue to research . lots of brake systems out there that look good and perform great . i would suggest newer camaro or corvette systems . good luck .

Re: your opinion on my rims
I like the rims, and do the brakes or at least for now paint the rust on the hub section of the rotor and paint the calipers. Anything other than rust color would help. But filling up that empty space with big brakes would look great as well.

Do the brakes.
Hate giant rims and nothing to back it up with.
Like others said more weight u add, the more brake u need to stop

Yeah, get 400rwhp, get to 120mph in the 1/4 and then not be able to stop in time.. great idea Anthony.
Brakes are very important, I'm happy to see someone doing brakes before any serious power increase as the stock brakes on these cars absolutely blow. I mean... you could probably stop from those speeds in that amount of time...like once or twice every 20 minutes.
The C4HD front and LS1 rear brakes I put on my '88 TA made a HUGE difference. If I did it again, I'd go with LS1 brakes all around personally. C5 brakes actually have zero advantage for more braking power...just better resistance to fade. I wish I had just kept the stock LS1 brakes on my Z instead of swapping the C5's on. Zero difference on the street, and now I have to run minimum of a 17" wheel up front... no option 15" skinnies for me

Re: your opinion on my rims
by the cheapest tires you can find - including used ones on ebay or craigs list, and do the breaks before you put the rims on. i know one person mentioned it but if you have to use those rims then you need breaks big enough to stop them. your radius might have changed and you are turning more distance per roll than with smaller tires. that is why you have to change the spedo when you put larger tires on. well you should change the breaks too.
as for the rims, they look nice, but i prefer old school American Mags.

If you are worried about going fast, why dont you take your brakes off for weight reduction?

Re: your opinion on my rims
I would need to see them on your car or an other thirdgen to be sure. Doing a LS1 brake set up is cheap if you want to do it. Did mine fore under $500.

Re: your opinion on my rims
Wow. That's a very ignorant view Anthony. Brakes are an essential part of any performance upgrade. And the stock 10.5" rotors are pathetic. My 93 escort had 10.5" brakes and it was 1000lbs lighter than the gta. Even if my car were running right now I'd never take it to a road circuit because the brakes are nowhere near good enough. They are barely good enough for the street.

Re: your opinion on my rims
Start at the 3 marker, back it off to the 4 marker, then to the 5 marker, then 100' back on the straight away for every lap after that.
If you start the brakes on fire, keep going because pulling in the pits will just make the grid marshals nervous and have them waiving fire extinguishers around.
In all seriousness, LS1 brakes are the cat's *** for anything short of a full blown race car. I run LS1 brakes on my race car and they're fine at most tracks but two tracks are killer on brakes and I think I'm going to have to move to C5 brakes or a Wilwood setup just to keep costs down (almost 1 set of Porterfield pads with LS1 brakes at Autobahn full).

If you must have the bling, do the brakes to match. Otherwise it's kinda a worthless upgrade. IMO

Re: your opinion on my rims
Thanks for all the replies fellas, your suggestions are appreciated. I was leaning towards waiting..now I'm sure about it. I was wondering if anyone else noticed how "out of place" big rims look without big brakes. Apparently I'm not alone in thinking it looks wrong. So many cars around my area with tiny brakes and big rims, that I was beginning to think nobody paid attention to the brakes at all. Good to know I'm not going crazy. After looking through the "brake board" I see more options then I had previously thought. While I'm sure the LS1 setup would offer more than enough performance, I already have a front C5 setup, so I think I'll just keep to that route. However, after seeing some of the new C6 ZO6 setups, I'm considering holding out a little longer. I know its overkill, but those C6 ZO6 calipers look amazing! Thanks again guys, you've been a great help.

i only trapped 107 and i was on the brakes pretty good to make the first horseshoe at the end of the shutdown. the second horseshoe is for racecars that run 9's IMO. plus i got 1lE's with hawk pads up front.

Picked up a rear end from Thirdgen89GTA that had the pbr rotors and calipers a little bit ago. Finally got around to seeing what the bigger rotors and calipers would look like. I think if I clean 'em up they should work out nicely. What do you all think?

Re: your opinion on my rims
I think those will look fine.
The only thing I hate worse then big wheels with small brakes is big wheels with ridiculous brakes.
"I know you've got 20" wheels, but that doesn't make 15" carbon rotors mandatory. It's a Geo Metro for christsake!"
