looking for torque converter help....
well i have been salvaging a lil bit of money right now and trying to get my car going from it's sleep.... for the last few weeks i've been debating on what kind of torque converter i should get for my car...
now unfortunatly i dont' have the money to buy like a vigilante 'veter....
all i'm looking for a is a small upgrade from the stock stall speed. say like a 2200 to 2400 stall ....(lock-up style)
I"ve already made the attempt to go to gm for a price on a s-10 style/ blazer converter....the price for a new converter is reasonable but unfortunatly as a core, they want the same one back...so that won't work for me....because i'd be giving them my stock one which they won't take back....
so really my only option comes to buying a new performace one....Anyone know where i can buy a new 2400 stall converter without having to pay over 250, in the area?? I've looked into a TCI, but i hear they're not very reliable.....so i'm probably gonna stay away from that unless noted....
any help would be greatly appreciated....

I'm also looking to upgrade cheap for when I drop a 350 in this fall. What year/engine size, TC from s10/blazers would be good? What size stall are they?

Re: looking for torque converter help....
well i'm gonna look into autozone tommarow morn...and check out their pricing and what not....
Miller, from what i was told you can look up any s-10 style/ blazer from 89 on and up....i don't really think it really matters as long it's a 30 spline. From 1987 and up on later TH 700 R4's, they went from the 27 spline input shaft to a 30....
Here are the GM part numbers i got from the dealers for the torque converters, (if you want to do your own research on them)
GM part #24202310 is for Blazer/ s-10 Eng. code W that has 2 wheel drive
GM part #24210922 is for Blazer/ s-10 with 4wheel drive...the difference between the two i have no idea other then part number, i'm sure they function the same...but i wouldn't know unless i see them side by side.
wish me luck ya'll ....hopefully by next weekend i'll be working on the car and getting my baby back on the road!
later all

Re: looking for torque converter help....
Thanks for the info. Good luck and let me know how it works out. I don't plan on buying one right now, but I would like to know if its something worth putting in when I do the 350 swap in a couple months.

Re: looking for torque converter help....
The 89' Vette tc is $168. S10 works too.
You are looking for a 4.3L V6 out of a later S10, earlier works too, but later is always better.
Either way, beats the stock stall which is close to 1700rpm I beleive. I had a S10 on mine and it worked fine. As long as the splines match yours its all good.
Just make sure that TC is seated FULLY. It can seam like its on there but may not really be.
Sadly while money is a issue a used Vig. is worth if you find one, and the price is right.

I've got my old 2200 converter for sale... it was put on when the trans was rebuilt a few years ago. Not sure what brand though. Let me know if you're interested.
