US 41 TnT last minute decision 9/1/06
Weather permitting...Still looks like rain, but I'll try to make it down there anyway to see what the car can do. Sorry this is a last minute post. C'mon down if you can.

Well, I went down there. No rain. Had the same problem as last year with the 2-3 shift delay at WOT even after having it rebuilt (again). Because of having to lift for a second or two each pass, my times were very inconsistent, so I began tuning for MPH instead. My MPH went from a 111.10 first pass to a 118.66 by the end of the night. Ran out of time for tuning, but found it pretty much useless without the ability to get 3rd in a timely fashion.
Tried to contact the trans builder this morning, but the buisness is empty
I'm sure I could have squeezed 120 out of her had the trans been up to snuff. I've put a post up on the transmission board hoping for a resolution to the problem. The best pass for the night (without red lighting) was an 11.65 @ 118.66. Short time was 1.6041. This was the last pass...then I drove it home.

Damn, I wanted to go. I was actually bolting on my drag radials when I noticed the passanger side was rubbed the frame pretty badly. I can't believe I didn't notice earlier, I drove all the way to Osceola Dragway on them before. Ah well, maybe next time. BTW, how crowded was it? Dunno how much street bike night would impact the turnout.

Tink,
Go with Jimmy's in Mundelein if your still running a 700r4.
Or Pro-Built here on the boards, both are good and back what they sell.
For what its worth, the disengage of second and the engage of third shift timing can be a real mother to set up. Even very good people have to test and adjust them
Sounds like you got yourself a pretty good ride going there!

Thanks 3.8. I got ahold of the builders number. If he won't help me I will look into the companies you suggest.
Not a big turnout. I like it that way, because you can get as many runs in as you want. I would make 2 passes, then make an adjustment, then run 2 passes, make an adjustment, and so on up until closing. Only had to wait in staging lanes a minute or less between passes. Things were moving a bit slower at first because of a closed lane though. There was a blue Camaro out there that appeared to be almost stock on the outside. I never approached him to see if he was on this board, but on the way home, when I was turning off into my subdivision, I noticed he was right in front of me so he must live down here somewhere.
Sorry I didn't plan further ahead so others would be able to make it down

jesse,
there's mokena trans and TRS transmission in orland park, they both do excellent work. Had my old 4L60E in my SS done up by TRS and they did a great job. For a Turbo 350/400 trans they both do great work. I can get you contact info if you want. Excellent times though, faster than what I'm planning on running for sure.

Thanks Steve. I have an excellent 350 trans, but I'm waiting to reinstall it. Want to save up for a 9" or 12 bolt first. I like the 700 cause it lets me get on the highway. Went 179 miles between last night's racing and today's cruising. Burned 14 gallons in all making it roughly 13MPG. Not too bad IMHO.
Oh, c'mon Steve...your car should do pretty darn good!
I'm sort of embarassed by my ET's because it's the same times I ran last year. I added 125lbs of cage, but added a few HP, so it all evened out somehow. Wish it would have cut a quicker ET. I was hoping for 11.20 at 120 or better. Maybe next time I won't go down there with a full gas tank or a wimpy trans.

I know there's tons of room in this combo for improvement. Smaller combos have been much faster. That's why I was almost embarrassed to post my times.
1. The camshaft is not mached properly...it's just something that was thrown in for now. The exhaust duration is some 12 degrees more than the intake. The exhaust port on these heads flow too well to merit a split duration like that. Maybe 4-6 degrees tops should be needed for what I have. (already have the new specs, just waiting to hit the lottery.)
2. The TH350 would be much more efficient than the 700. And the converter could be quite a bit looser...maybe 4500-4800. Wheelspin is not an issue yet.
3. The carb might be slightly too large. Just for an experiment I may install the old 750 to see what happens, but I love the throttle response of the Demon...it's like fuel injection up until around 90% throttle. After 90% throttle, the car slows down considerably. Like a garden hose spray nozzle that, when opened too far, doesn't flow or spray as far. It may be a jetting issue considering everytime I jetted up it went quicker. Maybe at 100% it's getting too much air and not enough fuel...then again, maybe it's just too big.
I have plenty to tinker with, and will continue to iron out these problems as I go. I won't be going back to the track until I figure out the trans issue. Feel free to add any other thoughts or suggestions you might have and I will consider them with an open mind.
