Its always something.
U never win, the harder you play the more it breaks and the more you spend :-)
My non car friends/family laugh at me. If u do the math and figure it out, its still cheaper than paying full coverage and buying a new comparable car and than realising 3 years later you cant even sell it for half of what you payed lol

people are always jealous of those of us who can trailer a car, not have it get all dirty on the trip down and then I don't have to worry about one of the 100s of stupid little things that can break on these old cars and leave it stranded. If I want to drive my car around town I will, but I won't take it out on a brand new motor combo that has seen zero tuning just because people have a problem with it. It's just like the guys at the track who whine about trailering your car the 1.5 hours up to byron or US 41, but they're the guys begging to have their cars on back of your trailer when something breaks.

If its not legal or brand new, I think even I would get a litte questionable.
The bigger problem with trailering is, that most people dont have a car + trailer + vehicle to tow it with.
I do and will continue to drive everything everywhere as it permits, we almost always have one trailer within out group floating around when we go to the track.
Sometimes the car that went down on it comes home with it, sometimes its driven cause someone else broke big time :-)
Trailers are nice to have, but it does blow unless u have enough money to have a trialer and a truck + a car to trailer.
Personal opinions aside, I really dont care how mice or powerful it is :-) If I cant drive it anywhere I want more or less when I want, it is useless to me.
Steve, get a wideband and you will be amazed at how quickly you can dial in a carb :-)

Oh yes, my TTA had plates from 01 on it lol :-)
I can admit to never being stranded in a thirdgen I have owned as of yet :-P

i can tune carbs the old fashioned way no problem, but when you start mixing big gears and big stalls on the street for an hour straight of driving it does become a little bit of a hassle to fight rising temps. Since I have both a tow vehicle and trailer available to me I'll typically do it this way every year. Had the shows been around my house, like S&S in orland park, then I'll just drive it out there. Not to mention I still need to swap to a more steetable fuel pump, since this one on my car is anything but--not sure if anyone heard me turn it on or not.
Also, if anyone has wideband devices and wants to loan them out that would be great. Furthermore, to Tim what is more sad than anything is Dean not asking me for my address and writing it down at thirdgenfest and shipping out my oil pan, or heading to Firebird383's house or anyone else in the area that I see to give it to me. If he wants to PM me to ship it out that would be great, I guess I'm the kind of person that if I owe something to someone I give it or ship it for $10 and not have me keep asking for it.

Personally I'm a fan of the Innovate wideband if u need a display get the LM-1
If u have a computer car and can datalog get the LC-1 and display it on your scanner.
Just goole Innovate, you should be able to get one for about $330 it will save u that much in gas at least.
If u want to get a real carb worked out and get mileage/part/full throttle get yourself a QJ.
Dont knock it until u have tried it. (thats my I'll take a QJ over any other carb plug, althought I'm liking features on the Demon carbs)
But seriously, with a wideband you can have it almost all with a car.
Tweak the idle and figure out the part throttle and cruise AFR's and work on the WOT transtions and WOT AFR's.
Only thing you really need to make sure of before you start is zero mechanical/electrical issues and a leak free exhaust in front of and behind the wideband.
The biggest carb bashers are usually folk who dont have the knowledge to rebuild them and tweak them out themselves. There is as big a diff between and untuned EFI car as there is on an untuned carb car once u get it all worked out.
Only thing that will beat it would be a EFI car :-P
PS. If your running that much gear, how much power are u making? Get an OD tranny and gain 3-4 mpg if u drive it much at all it will pay for itself.

jeremy,
you using either of those wideband setups? I just checked out the LM-1 and it appears you can run a A/F gauge type setup that looks pretty simple to tune off of and should be easy enough to swap from car to car to vary the cost on it a bit amongst friends. Not sure if you can datalog off a autometer tach or electronic speedo without a computer running as well.

LOL that was not aimed at anyone Kevin just as a general statement.......I heard several people that were at TGF without their cars for one reason or another wishing the had a trailer so they could of at least had a car there to show off.
I will add my two cents here since most people assume I mostly trailer my car.....I have and will drive my car whenever I can (over 60k miles with the blower on it) but there are several reasons I will not hesitate to trailer it, the first one being I have a crushed spinal cord and cannot always physicaly handle the ride......second I have three kids and a wife so if we all go there is not enough room in the camaro.....but I have never trailered because I felt the car could not make the drive on it's own so never assume why someone trailers their car.
If you have a trailer and use it great... if you don't I would bet at some point for whatever reason you will wish you did have one to use so I don't see why this gets to be such a big issue.

IF I HAVE TO DELETE POSTS DUE TO RETARDS WITH COMPUTERS I GET ANGRY.
Steve, I'm using a Innovate fulltime in the Formula and more or less part time in the TTA when I'm working on it.
Pretty much best bang for the buck out there, replacement sensors run about $40 if you shop around from Audi/VW suppliers(thats a hint if u missed it)
Works great and parts are cheap for when u kill a sensor.
Takes all the guess work out and when u do WOT, u can lean/richen it and watch the mph and know what the best AFR is for your car.
As far as flrtn1's car goes, I have seen him drive it down 394 to the Fest(at least part of the way) and he was driving it on part of Power tour last year.

I run the Innovate almost full time in the Formula.
I only take it out when I'm working on something else, usually one of my cars.
I also have two complete DIY widebands from the DIY-EFI boards.
Eventually everything I own will have full time wideband logging/display.
:-)
