My thoughts on a 06 rental

Well, after getting the bad news about the price increase at 41, i got to thinking.

I would like to do everything in my power to make this our 3rd annual rental. Now keep in mind i am dirt poor.

What about inviting another group to join us, i am not saying a huge group like the mfba, but me and dean did meet a really cool guy that is starting a dodge magnum group and has about 12 members already. He said they would be interested in doing this.

How many of you would pay 100 if that was the fee?

Let the discussion begin............

i think aanouther small group is the way to go honestly... i mean i could prob come up with the 100 and i know there are people out there that could as well but i dont think we could get 30 people to cmmit to this without other groups

actually kevin (Firebird383) and I went to the drag expo this weekend and got several prices from different tracks for rentals. none were over $1500. So I have to wonder what is going on...considering we said groups of 25 to 50 cars with both lanes prepped for 5-8 hours ballpark. Cordova raceway was EXTREMELY nice to us and I know it's a little bit of a hike but he said, sundays are good...certain blackout dates and so are weekdays anytime. Byron told me they won't rent the track out regardless of how much money we have. BUT if we wanted to have a group day on their test and tunes we would get staging lane priority, meaning we pick who we race, head to the front of the line, and they'd setup trophies for us for fastest ET, mph, etc. Not only this, but all for the low low low price of the cost of general admission to the track for test and tune. I'm really happy with both of these tracks' willingness to help us out considering what US 41 did to us. I have all the contact info for both tracks. If no one steps up for this I will just invite out 20 cars to byron for test and tune and run one myself for general entrance fees. I have plenty of cars off chitownracing and my buddies that would want to get down for this for fun. If anyone has any suggestions let me know, or if I should go ahead with something. Or if this board doesn't want to participate at cordova I'll set up byron regardless of thirdgen.org's involvement, I know kevin and I want to get out to the track a bunch this year and this seems like a good way to get it done.

I agree with you Steve that there are a lot of people on Chitown that would be willing to do this. Heck I would be too if I was home and actually had the car ready to go out We'll see what spring brings me.

Has anyone looked into Osceola dragway? Ive never been there so I dont know what the track is like. I was just looking at a list of tracks and seen it was in the northern part of the state.

so would people be willing to do a byron raceway outing? granted it'll be part of their test and tune. if not how about one of the earlier test and tunes at US 41 in may that shouldn't be "too busy" or even april on a warmer weekend? plus there wouldn't be a pot of 1500 needed to be assembled before then.

I will throw this out there because it might be a factor with some people not going to the track......I plan on trailering for the track day and would be more than willing to get someone home or to a "safe haven" (within reason) if they break at the track

i'll be trailering as well, since my combo isn't sorted out yet, and 6 mpg sucks. also did interest in this die already? looks like no one has an opinion on track choice or anything in the last few days.

Nothing died, i just think the majority here would rather do a rental more so than a test and tune.

I am making calls, seeing what i can do.

May have another small group interested in joining.

well i already posted basically everything i found out. cordova said 1500 or less, sundays or weekdays 5-8 hours both lanes prepped. if not there's byron but they're not allowing a track to ourselves day, but will move us to the front of the line to setup races if we had a group day, same cost as regular test and tune and no one is left holding the extra money if we come up short. i plan on hitting the earlier test and tunes at US 41 which are basically dead on saturday mornings 10am-3pm if people want to get together. I just can't see us getting 30 people to pay $100 a pop for the rental. Possibly 60 people with 2 groups for $50 a person, but that's a lot of people and this board would have what 10-15 cars tops from last years showing? We really need to get more people involved into these gatherings I don't see our chicago board getting much larger year after year, seems like everyone i've already met is basically it on this thing. Hopefully new faces will step up as well and join us.

I totally know how you feel about the getting bigger thing. Jeremy has went through hell trying to make things better, get more people out to no avail.

I have always wanted this board to branch out and have a sort of club feel to it. Some resistance was felt, and i dropped it.

Yeah, the guys we met from Cordova and Byron were all pretty cool. I was surprised that Byron wouldn't rent out the track. Didn't someone say before that they got a price of $4000 or something from them?

Anyway, I'm down with any plan mentioned above. I just want to try out my new helmet.

Well it looks like Osceola dragway is out of the question. I cant get a responce over the phone or through email. If anyone can get ahold of them and find out it would be appriciated.
