Finally got a Daily Driver!
But most of you aren't going to like it... haha. Now I can focus on getting the bird running real good and keep the miles off.
The bird has an issue in Open loop and HATES to idle, so I have to warm it up for like 10 minutes at 2k rpm and slowly lower the RPMs till it will idle. That is the main issue I need to fix. Other than that, she is running real strong with the new engine, and traction in 1st gear is going to be an even bigger prob now.
I was trying to get my car to the track before I left back for Japan, but just my luck, it has been raining every Wednesday and Saturday since I have gotten the car running.

Re: Finally got a Daily Driver!
So uh, I'll bite. What's the DD?
When do you depart? Should be beautiful this Wed.
Is your IAC working?
If IAC is good and you have resources to tune you should play with the "Warmup Enrich (Open Loop AFR )" and/or "Startup Enrich vs Coolant" tables.
I've had similar issues with mine for a long while and never got the cold-start idle quite dialed-in. Hoping to resolve with the new ecm setup/tune.

I leave monday. I have an ALDL cable and all the stuff to burn proms. I just haven't had the time to really mess with it.
Here is a pic... and ill keep it thirdgen related.
I'm already raising hell on the mustang forums... 3rd gen all the way baby! I got too good of a deal to pass up, and it's really clean.

Nice, I liked my 88 gt. Was fairly quik. They are pretty fun cars. My wife hated the stiff clutch (cable) make sure you get an adjustable clutch quadrant.

I got a good deal on it, and I got it off a buddy. I have known the mustang and everything he has done to it for the last 5 years. I always told him, let me know when you want to sell it. And I kinda lowballed him and kept bugging him, and finally he was okay, ill sell you it. I plan on storing it with the bird.

Re: Finally got a Daily Driver!
Same here. Here is my best friends stang.
He just built an engine for it to try and take down felicia, but he is going to be looking at her tail the whole time.
He went 347 Stroker, GT40P heads (ported), Explorer Intake (ported), E303 cam, with supporting mods. Regardless the heads, intake, and cam are going to be really holding him back. I can't wait to come home and tear him up at the track.
Here is a vid of me taking down his DD also.. a '99 GT.

And I am pretty sure I have decided when the stock engine pops, it will be getting an Ls1

Re: Finally got a Daily Driver!
Just an update, my buddy blew up his 99 GT, so he has be driving my mustang for the last 3-4 months. He called asking about a tranny problem, and I told him the tranny was newer. Said it wasn't engaging until he revved it a bit, then it would start moving. So I am kind of upset about that. I just talked to him recently and he said it was low on fluid, so he put some anti-slip crap in it (bad move grr)...
So unfortunately I figure I have 2 cars at home that are going to be needing a transmission. I told him to just start the firebird every few weeks because the tranny was starting to slip under WOT (but still very drive able), and I think he was driving it around and ****, because he said it is slipping really bad now. So I am pretty upset about that. The car has too much meaning to me to have someone drive it. It's all I really have left of my dad now.
I feel like I left with 2 great running cars (1 with a slip at WOT) and now I am going to be coming home to 2 trashed transmissions. Which sucks because I can only come home for 30 days and I don't want to spend a week doing transmissions. I would rather enjoy my time off...
But I figure, I can do a 5 speed swap for around a grand on the mustang (new synchro's and clutch and stuff) or I can drop a t56 in the bird and start DDing it again while I put the 1k towards a LsX swap.
Another question, should I let him keep driving my mustang and let him kill the tranny and take his spare t-5 setup, or should I take it and hope the tranny is still good?
Regardless I am a bit upset. What would you guys do? Oh, and the firebird will be getting towed to my mom's house and kept there. He is my best friend, and I know he will make right with what goes wrong... Just didn't like how he said the firebird transmission won't make it a mile down the road anymore, because when I left it only slipped at WOT, which in my opinion, seems like he has been driving it around quite a bit.
We are really good friends, I Daily Drove his white 5.0 pictured above for a few months, but I didn't break anything...

Re: Finally got a Daily Driver!
Boom... Got another DD. That is what I keep calling the cars I buy to make myself feel better I have been kinda planning on selling the Mustang because when the bird is running the stang never gets driven But, I was bidding on a TTA, but it fell through, so I was looking at other neat cars and tossed up a bid and ended up winning this one...
The mustang will get sold probably in 2 years when I get back from England along with the TONS of TPI parts/superrams I have been hoarding!
In lieu of getting a boosted car, I decided to boost the bird and picked up a P1SC. So I will either sell the stang, or go full out grudge car with an On3 turbo setup.

They were built at PAS... same place as the GNX and TTA. I have the documents from when mine was going through the assembly line from PAS.

Thanks! I'm honestly not a big fan of the Garnet Red, I prefer the Green/Gray ones... But I'm sure with the right wheels it will grow on me! They only made 26 in Garnet Red, so I would feel guilty doing a color change.

Re: Finally got a Daily Driver!
Well, I have a set of SS 10 spokes and 17x9.5/17x11 Zr1 Wheels sitting around that I decided not to use on the bird, along with a new set of 275/40/17's sitting around that will bolt right up to this thing... All I have to do is pick up another set of tires and i'm rocking and rolling.

Will do... I will probably end up taking the Typhoon to England. I'll drop it, wheels, up the boost a bit, and tune it. I'll aim for low 13's with stock parts.

Re: Finally got a Daily Driver!
So as some of you know, I brought to Typhoon with me to England... Back in the states I have the Mustang and the Bird. I plan to sell the Mustang soon, and didn't plan on keeping the Ty forever. Just wanted to play with it in England for a bit and will either sell it here or when I get back.
My whole goal was to Ls1 swap the bird. After my dad passed, he always was a fan of the superram (even though he never had to pull it ). So no Ls1 swap for the bird and I have begun to make it as bad *** as possible while retaining the superram.
That doesn't stop the itch for my Ls1 swapped thirdgen. I began pricing out the swap and I wanted to pick up a Iroc 'vert to swap it into as a DD when I get out in 16 months and start college. As we all know, swaps get pricey and I ended up finding a steal on an already swapped 86 Iroc with decent paint and complete running and driving. I purchased it, and it is headed to California in a few weeks. Since I made this purchase, I am going to be unloading my mustang, and all my thirdgen parts I have been hoarding to cover the purchase costs.
Here is a teaser shot. Plans are to install the stock Iroc decals, paint the GFX back to red, 5" hawks spoiler, add my Speedline Alessio wheels, and drive it until the wheels fall off.

Re: Finally got a Daily Driver!
I am hoping to sell the Mustang before I get out of the military and return from England. I plan to finish my Formula with my time before I start college. I need to pull the engine so I can paint the engine bay, replace the clutch while it is out, and install my procharger after I put it back together. From there, it will go in for paint. Who am I kidding though, these cars are NEVER done.
