Re: Test Drive
This was a closed road coarse set up to look like a residential neighborhood for the filming of a upcoming hollywood film, also this was set in mexico.
Tracks are open year round, boost is upwards of 15-16 from what its looking like now. I know im hitting 7 by 3000rpm.
I see by your info we run similiar setups. can u pm me more details on your car?
i have a few less cubes, slightly smaller heads (215's) and an F1, not the F2 like yours, and I plan to do the th400+gear vendors, but for now its just the th400 What EFI do you run? im like the smaller cousin to you in vehicle terms heh.

LOL! Good times. I recall nothing of the sort. I meant I'm more curious to see what the track has to say than some quickie residential pulls.

after paint! its too embarrasing to show up looking as is, and then to top it off, drive into the cement wall after my car decides to hook a sharp left.

I was crackin' up at the GTG when Terrell was talkin' about his manager saying he doesn't get excited/enthusiastic enough or something. He sounded impressed by the new and improved pink fairy.
I'm sure it'll look great after Steve is done painting it. I'm also sure the first trip out at the track might be rough! I know that's why you want to go there stealth, lol. What're you hoping for 1/4 mile wise. ..and what do you think it will actually do? heh.

Re: Test Drive
If you get your gearing good and torque converter as well, 10's are within your grasp. You will be focusing in on traction! Prochargers rock!!!

Is it because you're on the 10-bolt you're not using slicks?
Good question. What converter is in there?

Re: Test Drive
slicks is for racecars for one. I was going to do the street tire challenge, but I think I overbuilt this motor as my buddy was saying. I definitely need the help. I like to be able to drive this car to and on cruises so slicks are out of the question, afterall, this is a street car isnt it? just a very ridiculous one now.
I would have to ask Marc what converter it is, I believe it was built locally, It was a hand me down from him, cuz he needed to go higher stall, so its whatever same brand Marc is running I do know its a 10" 3500 stall. Perhaps Marc can chime in.

Re: Test Drive
Oh it's a street car alright, haha.
I meant you should look into the Joey method and have a 2nd pair of wheels for the track, so you can have the best of both.
You're going to have some nasty 60's otherwise, haha.
Stall, check. 10" 3500 says enough.
Look forward to seeing it back on the street/track.

Yeah Travis, Do the Joey Method Its a little more track day prep but its well worth it man. your going to spin sooo bad. Your not going to be able to see the true ability of the car.

Re: Test Drive
Its a SMI converter that was sent out to D&P converters to restall.
Its hard to check true stall speed w/o a trans brake. But I think its a 28-3000 stall. thats probably enough for a street car.
Travis why dont you run a hydro booster for your brakes?

ive looked into it, but hydroboost isnt as compact and would hinder my new air filter fitment.

How is your actual braking? I know you got one of those aftermarket prop valves and/or master cylinders right?
Stock rotors/calipers like my GTA? heh. I've got one of those external vacuum pumps going in soon.

Re: Test Drive
You might be able to get away with running an aux vacuum tank. If not, I still think a well selected manual m/c with some c5 fronts and something equally snazzy for the rear might be your best option.

Re: Test Drive
One more thing to go wrong, IMHO. Nothing simpler than a well selected manual M/C and almost every bit as drivable for how often you will be driving it. Tons of PT guys at Run to the Coast II are running manual brakes and stopping on dimes.

Ditching the MAF and FMU on my setup, that's 2 big things right there no longer able to go wrong.
I don't want to take away from Trav's thread. See you on the track/street soon big boy!

Re: Test Drive
go ahead and go off topic, only so many replies can be made to a video..
i need to drive a manual brake car to decide..
just seems so antiquated to me.
cant see much wrong with an additional electric motor. aka vacuum pump don.
im gonna re bleed all my brakes and decide how bad they really are. i wanna keep power brakes via vacuum at least. it seems hydroboost would be awesome but i havnt found a unit that is as compact as the 10" brake booster I am currently running.
del, can i have a ride in your gta, before and after, so i know what its gonna be like?? maybe even a light drive, i know im asking alot.. but in a completely mature environment ...?

The cam+blower was definitely the cause of weak/delayed braking as my m/c & rotors/calipers/pads were replaced with OEM parts couple years ago.

Re: Test Drive
my dodge has manual drum brakes all 4 corners ( goin to get upgraded) Manuals arent that bad. But power is a ton better. i do not think you'd like a manual brake car. i barely made the last turn off at sac with the charger back in the day. of course comparing drum to disk is the big difference. which is a very BIG difference.

Re: Test Drive
I thought that stung a little more than usual, lol.
Power brakes, manual brakes, whatever works, works. I personally prefer the simplest (typically most reliable) system for a critical function like braking, save for ABS/OE engineered systems. I have not heard of an OE electric vacuum pump (belt driven, yes) for a braking power assist. Too many things could malfunction like battery/alt power, fuses, relays, or the pump itself before you even get to the booster. Hydroboost would be my first choice, but you don't have room. Assuming there is an issue with sufficent vacuum, manual brakes would be my second choice.
I'll quit my rant, Trav.
I know you know what you are doing and I will gladly say, "Thank you, sir. May I have another?" after I get my first ride in your IROC.
